I wish that an expert on KZbin would analyze and talk about Dahmer being on the autism spectrum, because it's becoming more and more clear that he was. It explains quite a lot about him. 70% of ASD are LGBT as well, and symptoms often overlap with BDP (which he was diagnosed with) and also ties into his OCD behaviour. And many ASD people also have a tendency to self medicate with drugs or alcohol and along with maybe PTSD also experience dissociation. Oftentimes people with ASD have trouble fitting in from a young age and have trouble with reading other peoples emotions and regulating and expressing their own. They might come across as "cold" and "emotionless", but they really aren't. They just don't express it in the same way as most people. Some people with ASD might also have a limited sense of empathy, but not a complete lack of it. A study in the journal "Aggression and Violent Behaviour" in 2014 suggested that Dahmer displayed numerous indications of Asperger syndrome (which falls under ASD) (But note that I'm not saying that people with ASD are more likely to be violent. Most with ASD are not. I myself most likely have ASD too and I have never been violent) And it's also becoming more clear that he wasn't really a psychopath. The Behavioural Panel made an interesting video about that where they analyzed the interview with him where he was sitting next to his father. They concluded that Dahmer was most likely being honest and that he wasn't a psychopath and that there was most likely some traumatic past between him and his father that Dahmer was too afraid to open up about whilst his father was sitting right next to him. I just think it's fascinating to look at the case from a psychological point of view. I always thought that his behaviour was interesting because he wasn't like other serial killers.

“I’d rather have them dead, then leave.” Unfortunately his BPD and his total narcissism is what made him the monster that he was…not the ASD traits.
@Sakura77488
@Sakura77488 Жыл бұрын
@@wegotit2587 Not saying that it was the ASD that caused his violent behaviour. I just think it played a part in his overall behaviour and in how other people read him/misread him. But he most likely had BPD too. Many symptoms overlap as well between the two. Though I'm not so sure if he was a narcissist. If you're interested, I recommend you check out the body language analysis on him by The Behavioural Panel here on KZbin. It's a long video but very informative. All four of those experts mention that he doesn't come across as a psychopath or narcissist. However, his father (who sits beside Dahmer) does come across as a narcissist, and there were indicators that there was a dark past between them that caused Jeffrey Dahmer pain and he was too afraid to open up about. I'd also like to mention that I think it's very interesting that he wasn't considered a sadist either, unlike many other serial killers who often were psychopaths, narcissists and sadists who loved to torture and kill animals, however Dahmer never did such things, only dissected animals that were already dead. And here's an interesting quote by Dr. Frederick Fosdal, who had interviewed Dahmer for 20 hours; ″They were not brutal, sadistic acts. He said he killed them in the most painless way he knew. It all boils down to the question of control.″ I just find it so fascinating that he stood out from other serial killers in so many ways. But still, doesn't take away the fact that it was horrific. It was all very tragic I think.

@@Sakura77488 It’s funny you recommend the Behavioral Panel. I wouldn’t trust them if my life depended on their “expertise.” They have dropped the ball SO MANY times (i.e. failing to see red flags of abuse like in the case of Gabby Petito). World renown expert Dr. Ramani is a trusted source for learning how to spot people with behavioral and personality disorders. As someone who has worked with and been around people with serious mental/ behavioral disorders (schizophrenia, Schizoaffective disorder, Borderline disorder, Bipolar types 1 & 2, people who suffer Unipolar Depression, etc)… (Though none of us will ever get the chance to analyze/ talk to Jeffrey Dahmer today….), Jeffrey was most definitely a Narcissist. Did he have the personality disorder? No. However, narcissism often times runs in the family too (which from what I have seen of his father). You pretty much just debunked your own statement about how he was not a narcissist when you gave an example of how his compulsion for “control” over his victims/ sexual desires ruled his life. The ASD is another topic I will not get into (because that is another separate physiological developmental issue). However, Dahmer definitely was narcissistic. He wasn’t overt, so it is more difficult to spot for the average person cause he was very much covert about it. Nonetheless, it always came back full circle with his behavior when it came to ALWAYS trying to have the need to Control and Manipulate. I think the greatest finest example of his covert narcissism was how he was able to manipulate the cops into giving Konerak to him. Yes, it helped that he fit the outward appearance of looking like a clean cut harmless White guy (often the most dangerous in society do everything they can to look as non threatening and helpful as possible), but you cannot deny the fact it takes some serious talent to pull the wool over people in positions of power (the cops), beat the system (like his grand speech to the judge who gave him a slap on the risk for his sexual offense in another case). Chief Psychologist Dr. Norman Goldfarb (Department of Corrections in 1988 for Milwaukee Region at the time)…WARNED the idiot judge at the time that Dahmer was a danger to society and that he most likely WOULD reoffend (and potentially escalate his crimes). Instead, he went with Jeffrey (cause the real one gave a heartfelt speech that was never shown in Netflix by Evan). Like Gacy (who never should have been released in 72), had these stupid judges/ law enforcement did their jobs properly, none of these dangerous men would have EVER been able to kill and rack up so many victims! No person with any serious ASD could EVER pull off the manipulative tactics Dahmer used to mask and get away with his crimes for so long! Even with his defense team…he still could care less about his victims as actual beings that mattered . He wanted things to be about him in all reality, like trying to bring the focus onto him and his compulsions and wanting to find out why he was the way he was. The fact he was totally okay with having his victims die than leave him (his actual words) or kill them (just so he could have a few hours of temporary gratification) screams volumes of his narcissism. Even in death it is very scary how he could still manipulate people just by viewing his old interviews! You really think it makes him “better” simply just because he admitted to how and why he killed his victims? Is that really something we should be so “proud” of him for? Simply because he used a different angle to paint the way HE wanted people to see him (in his case to appear meek and vulnerable/ pathetic) than other serial killers? I see right through him for what creature he really was! We don’t see it from his known public interviews, but a lot of people who encountered him in the bars also noted how Jeffrey (not how Evan portrayed him in the series) was very charming! Jeffrey’s mom, was definitely BPD….so I do firmly believe he inherited some of the unfortunate traits from her as well. I think Jeff was a Covert Narcissist with BPD tendencies and ASPD disorder. More so than anything, it’s a good thing society is learning how to better equip ourselves on how to spot these dangerous individuals. This wasn’t even on anyones’ radar 20 years ago, so that is the plus side with advancements to technology. We are in a much better position to spot and record damaging behaviors of people, get them help (if they truly want it or can be help) and learn how to protect ourselves (and current/potential victims) in the process.

@@Sakura77488 You've made very interesting points! I also noticed he was different in certain ways, but couldn't quite figure it out. What you're saying makes sense. I also felt that the entire situation was incredibly tragic - his entire life & how deeply he affected the victims, their families, their communities, his family, etc. I think that the speculation that he might've been somewhere on the Autistic Spectrum is possible. I had watched other opinions on KZbin by so called experts & even they concluded that he didn't appear to be a psychopath. I haven't yet watched the same show by the Behavioral Panel. But I do understand from personal experience what it's like going through my entire youth not being properly diagnosed & how my family neglected the various medical problems I've had & their overall abuse of me after my father died when I was so young. It seems many aren't educated enough about Autism. I also understand what you're saying about symptoms overlapping, etc. I'll look for the assessment done by the Behavioral Panel & see if I can come back & share my thoughts.

He took a bunch of drugs, combine that with him following the satanic bible and having suffered from a head injury as a child, you get the spree killer that he was. I watched both too. In the tapes programme, I thought it odd how accepting the lawyers were that he was being honest. It sounded to me that he was being very manipulative- using the "I just want to know what made me like this" line as a means of distancing himself from personal responsibility and full accountability- as if he had no control and himself was a victim. I thought the drama series sought to make him sympathetic and that if authorities were not as homophobic and racist these things would not have happened. And if somehow earlier victims had been a bit nicer and stayed then he wouldn't have murdered so many. Dahmer is the only one responsible for what happened. He did what he did for personal gratification. Nobody else was to blame. Yes there may have been missed opportunities but people are viewing these through the lens of knowing what he did. Dahmer was opportunistic and devious. That is why he went undiscovered so long.

While Dahmer was very much the main reason for what happened, it wouldn't have gotten that bad if the police hadn't been so negligent. And yeah, part of that was due to racism and homophobia. Let's not forget how the police returned a 14 year old boy back to this man after he claimed he was 19. They brushed it off as a "boyfriend boyfriend" type thing. 12 out of 17 of his (known) victims were people of color. Jeffery lived in a predominately BLACK environment. He might not have went after black/brown people for a reason, but he was very lucky. The cops didn't care about them, and never took neighbours calls serious about Dahmer. Dahmer wasn't the biggest brained, it was very situational.

@@katherineinc.5136 The police didn't know that he was murdering people as you do from watching the Netflix series. The reason the police returned the 14 year old (who they believed to be adult) was because of misguided liberal lobbyists who changed police policy to be more "gay friendly." Dahmer showed them naked photos of him that appeared to show him willingly participating with Dahmer. The reason SOME of the victims were black is simply that is who Dahmer was attracted to. It wasn't a hate crime in terms of racism. And those people just disappeared off the face of the earth as far as the police and their families knew. They had no idea Dahmer had murdered them, especially as he disposed of them. Yes there were missed opportunities but it wasn't driven by disinterest, racism or homophobia it was driven by an evil, manipulative, misdirecting serial killer.

Although real life Dahmer denied knowing Hughes before murdering him, several accounts from Hughes’s friends stated otherwise. According to those accounts, the two have known each other for years before his death. Shirley, Hughes’s mother, also allegedly stated that her son told her he was visiting a friend in Milwaukee before his disappearance. A friend named “Jeffrey.”

@@tammy6522 thanks , but it wasn't a romantic relationsip like portrayed in the show right ? In the show they made it like it was the first time for Dahmer to like someone, and he became more brutal after that

@@brucewayne2480 there’s conflicting stories. According to Tony’s friends and family they were friends and had mutual friends- affording to dahmer he didn’t know tony until the day of the murder. Can’t find much on them actually dating. If anything they were casual friends. But not sure why dahmer denies this.

Tony had known Dahmer for at least year before he was killed and in the documentary, one of Tony's friends specifically said that Tony told him they "had relations" in that time, meaning that they had had sex in that time. So yes.

@@katkatkatkat463 I believe it. Two of Tony's other friends came forward after Dahmer was arrested and said, ''that was the blonde guy Tony would hang with''. They knew of Dahmer, but they didn't know him (if that makes sense)

The show is great, but doesn’t give a lot of a context in terms of Dahmer himself. I get some people are annoyed by that but it is just a dramatization meant for film. The Dahmer tapes really do give the audience proper context to Dahmer as a person and it annoys me when people get mad over it thinking it sympathizes him, but I think it gives us the necessary reasons why he became the monster that he did which a lot of people coming off of the Ryan Murphy show probably didn’t know.

Him getting killed doesn't seem right. He was baptized on the same day that John Wayne Gacy was executed with the eclipse happening in the background symbolizing death and rebirth. But then him getting killed literally make that pointless. Cause what's the point of the rebirth if few days later that rebirth will also face death? Just doesn't seem right to me like there's an actual evil force that prevents Jeffrey's rebirth to fully realized.

@@justinray6839 in America right now I think there's only 10 active serial killers but in dahmers time there was like 100. Law enforcement is doing better in that respect. And mental health is finally accessible and not as stigmatized. However even 10 is too many. The new dahmer program finally put more emphasis on those who needed it, the victims. Stop glorifying killers.

@@aalihte3378 I'm not glorifying them. I'm looking on the side where there might be a positive, in the midst of what has already been made/done. This still has the possibility to affect people in an informative way. I bet there are plenty of things that you use or consume on the daily that's origins have a dark and demented past. What's next? We can't wear clothes made of cotton because of African slaves who were forced to pick it? How bout you try and delete all media relating to any tragic real life event, ever? Good luck with that.
