The pistol up for auction is of the time period that may have been used by Jesse James but to me three isn’t enough providence to say it truly was. Still a great piece of history.
@soylentgreen70742 жыл бұрын
Definitely seems likely it was a James gang gun. Just odd it’d have another member’s name on it. I wonder if he put it on there after Jesse’s death? Or did he carry it and not Jesse? I 99% believe it’s gang connected but not super convinced Jesse himself carried it. Either way still a fascinating piece of history being connected to the gang at all.
@davidbaumann86832 жыл бұрын
Your kidding right. This is the lamest province Iv'e ever heard of on any famous gun. It came in a left handed holster that looks similar to a right hand holster that Jesse is wearing in a picture. So What! The reason Jesse's name isn't under the grips is because it was never his gun. It belonged to the guy that stamped his name on it. And they are saying that A. H. Ryan is a known gang member. I haven't found this name in any of the history I've found. I think this statement is made up too.

Mr. David You OWN the HOLY GRAIL OF ALL GUNS! I watched the History Channel twice of that gun! When you took the grips off that gun, I was like dang, that’s Jesses handwriting! And I’m no certified signature Authenticator, I’ve also seen a lot of JJ signatures, and even I can tell it’s JJ signature! I sure wish you could’ve received the paperwork for that gun. But it is true that Frank did get the gun from Zerelda, Jesses wife. Thank and God Bless

I agree. It's like all the pictures that have surfaced in recent years purportedly of Billy the Kid. Sure a lot of them look like him, but there were a lot of young men who did so you can't go by that.

The Schofield is a variation of the S&W No. 3 revolver. The primary difference is whether the top-break release is attached to the top of the frame (Schofield), or to the barrel (no. 3). The No. 3 was chambered in a wide variety of cartridges, including .44 American, .44 Russian, .45 Schofield, .45 Long Colt, and even .44 Henry. Smith and & Wesson sold a lot of No. 3 revolvers to the Russian military. I have a modern-day Schofield reproduction and it is a great shooter.

This isn't Jesse's revolver. Your provenance is based on a picture of a right hand holster that Jesse owned and this left hand holster is just similar in appearance. And the grip strap being stamped with A. H. Ryan probably means the gun belong to A. H.. Ryan not Jesse. Jesse probably never even held it in his hands.
