You can't love others if you hate yourself. If you criticize your self. In Hebrew "ve ahavta. Lereacha. Kamocha". Do not do to others what you don't want others to do to you. 2 "hakam lehorgecha ashkem lehorgo" which means if someone comes to kill you, get up earlier and defend your self and kill him. I came here wondering what could a non-Jew know about the Jew and success, but he did his homework. He's right. It takes work to be "successful". While the average person gives up when presented with tough challenges, the average Jew faces those challenges and finds a way around them. They refuse to accept defeat. It takes a bit of ego to do this. You have to believe that you are superior to the challenge and that the challenge is temporary. You can give up when you're dead. You can sleep when you're dead. Until then, you do everything you can to conquer the challenge and move forward. Failure happens, but you only truely fail when you give up.

I wouldn't say every Jewish person is smart, but a lot of them are. Intelligence alone does not guarantee success. I'm a very intelligent Jewish person (ethnic Jew) but I have yet to obtain "success", mainly due to mental issues I've had to conquer first (such as depression, anxiety, and so forth). I live a reasonably comfortable life, but I'm far from rich.

- Learning stuff is literally their culture - They often grow up multilingual - The Hebrew language is quite complex. Learning it at a young age helps your brain to understand other complexities better. - They're used to be hated so even if you "spit" at them, they still get up in the morning. - They need to proof themselves against all the Jew haters. - They have strong sense of unity because of historic prosecution. - their religion teaches a responsible use of any resources. And many other things, that is still included in their culture, even if they're not religious anymore. If they're religious, then God loves them and they have all the blessing's for success. You forgot to mention that they are a relatively closed culture. If 'multilingualism' were a requirement for success, Europeans would be the most successful cultures on the planet. Speaking three languages in Europe is quite common with 4 or 5 not uncommon. AND, if Hebrew is a complex and difficult to learn, then ASIAN people would be the most successful people on Earth.

I'm Jewish and not all jews are rich . Reason many jews are successful is because we are supposed to follow G-D s, torah and give tons of charity. The torah states that one must give at least 10% of ones net income and one will make it back plus some . Also the Torah states that ones success also comes from honoring ones wife and keeping that sabbath . The main thing about Judaism is chessed = kindness. G-D bless everyone!

I'm sure you mean well, but there are many stereotypes and inaccuracies in the presentation, even though it is funny, so it is hard to be offended. Not all Jews are successful or rich, far from it, or even know the ones who are. One thing you are right about , though is education. Other things are the expectation of success, hard work, thousands of years of universal literacy (for males at least), challenging authority, a sense of humour in the face of adversity, clean living, the desirability of marrying scholars (whereas in the christian world the most educated men remained celibate), a sense of purpose in the world... The other thing is that if in a country a person is successful people don't pay too much attention, but Jews are otherised, so any Jewish success is magnified. So what can you do? Choose a worthy goal, work hard, stop being jealous (that's to all the narrow-minded people making nasty comments below) , focus, think outside the box, be good to your family and community and just get on with it.

I don't think they actually knew what they were doing. The Ashkenazi Jews stumbled onto something that elevated their cognitive profile, the other Jews are nothing special. That is a point the speaker ignores. I think the "Overseas" Chinese in Southeast Asia dominate the economy there primarily for the same reason, and with much the same business strategies, as the Jews, which suggests that the importance of verbal skills, as useful as they are, is not as great as the speaker in this podcast seems to think.

If you want to check how brilliant they really are talk with or listen intently to some of the Jewish people in media. There are many non-Jews more astute and articulate than they but it's extremely hard to make it in a world where contacts are the name of the game. They have a talent to push themselves onto others with their persistence. No people are more persistent in their demands. Knowing that there are contacts waiting for you makes a person so much more confident and determined to succeed. The same principle is behind Israel's military success. Once you have the best weapons (and they had them from 1947 when Stalin gave them captured German military hardware) then you are more confident in achieving victory.
