WARNING THIS FOOTAGE CONTAINS SWEARING - ADULTS VIEWING TO MINORS WITH CAUTION
I was a bit annoyed with other clips only showing the part where he is swearing, therefore I took it on myself to take a clip of the entire incident so people in the future will have the whole chunk of the picture therefore being able be a better judge of the situation.
My personal opinion is that the clamp possibly might have been too high, BUT Jody was clearly putting a hell of a lot of pressure on his left leg, you'll see what I mean when you see the slow mo footage ( 4:32 ) from the front, as he gets released all the pressure goes down his left and actually causes the wheel to move over as well as spin, kind of like those boy racers revving up their engines then creating wheel spin just before they jet off.
Though if you want the swearing then go here ( 8:38 )

I can't see why what the officials did was an issue. In any other sport you spin your tires off the line out of a corner you loose speed but don't ever get a do over. I see it in drag racing, motor sports etc... It's part of the skill.

The real lesson here is, Paralympics, Olympics, and any kind of sports, all the same thing, all fixed. People STILL not seeing this (in 2021) just blows my mind. It’s like people “need” to be TOLD it’s fake just to start believing it (like WWF) it’s ok to know it’s all fixed, look at WWF and how popular that still is. just stop acting so surprised about it all. All sports are fixed, n not by the athletes, they actually try or they actually cheat, where the “fixing” aspect of all sports comes is the $$$$ and why “betting” is a thing. Truthfully betting (on sports) should be illegal, cause that’s HOW u give the excuse to “fix” the fight. 100000000000000$ of dollars and u think they gonna just “lose it” from all sports dude, it gets fixed so all these big time CEO losers in their ice suits and limos, still make their money, so from bs official calls, to dr stoppages etc. THEY will find ways and do everything and anything to still make things go their way. Literally all sports. It’s all staged, n all just one big loop hole circle (like chinese martial arts and how that dude is exposing the entire operation of how THOUSANDS of these “masters” of Kung fu are complete bs.) to make $$$. How does it make ANY sense that people not even playing (or if U are fighting, then risking ur life pretty much) can profit off of it? To the point where people (like sand white) will make MORE than the actual athletes playing? Yah one word, fixed. N that’s why I’m not saying COLLIGATE and WHY they hopefully NEVER take that path of “paying” college athletes, cause trust me once $$$$$ becomes involved the entire game will change, how the athletes perform (cause the bs of now “oh I will play my best if I get paid what I AM WORTH” u know that whole pathetic every athlete uses cause they think they are just king s, special and entitled to millllllllllllions) and that’s when “fixing” will come into play. If u grew up doing sports, trust me it’s fixed, n anyone who grew up playing sports knows this. When u do elementary, junior high, high school and even college that’s all PURE sports aka playing for that PASSION and u SEE it. So where does that line change? When u start playing this sport u love for passion, but then it becomes this “what I’m worth” journey. It’s called $$$$. N elementary throughout college u DON’T GET PAID! No one is “betting” on u (sure maybe small time under the table bs but no major betting allowed for college sports) aka no one is making a profit off of what u are doing and they are doing NOTHING! u play PURELY for the passion of the game. Once u go pro, start getting $$$, people can make more than you do simply by “betting” (while u the one actually playing), that’s when the entire game changes. Everything changes and it now becomes this world of suits,CEO, VIPs and all these f’s who have mad $$$$ and u just become a pawn/puppet, for their “fixed” game. Sad sad sad truth. N why betting in sports needs to be banned. No one should be allowed to profit from something they aren’t even participating in. so aka u have mad $$$$ have inside sources, u place a bet, those “inside sources” do what they need to do to “fix” that fight. Bad dr stoppage that would NEVER happen any other time but just out of no where is happening now? Why? Cause they feel the other guy is going to win, they will lose their money, so what do they do? Make an “official” claim some dumb a bs. N book game is now fixed. Because in EVERY sport, what that “official” says, stands, can’t be appealed etc. in other words, u are THEIR puppet, and u can be 100% in the right, 100% giving all your actual efforts. If it goes against the $$$$ they all need to make (for that gate and all that other bs) then all of that means nothing, n they will find whatever bs reasons to pull that W from your feet. Happens in all sports, still continues to happen, if people just looked up even simple “dark history stuff” in sports it’s all RIGHT there. Out in the open, people still acting like sports is “real” tho. Just crazy it’s like people Won’t believe what’s obviously right in front of their eyes until they are told (like WWF) like I’m saying look at WWF and where it STILL is and it’s known to be fake. So what’s the harm? Just come out be honest about it, I doubt it would change much, plenty of brain dead’s out there that would STILL watch and love sports knowing it’s all staged. Like that Brady win right? Changes team (so there is your BIG “storyline” also RED FLAG when ANYTHING has a “STORYLINE” that’s already how u know FIXED! Cause LIFE is VERY unpredictable and there are no “storylines” in life, life happens and u deal with whatever the f get thrown at you) and grownkowski comes back out of retirement too to “join” him and they “win” that super bowl. Yah seems like a really great SCRIPT for a movie. I predicted all of that garbage the SECOND it happened and why? Cause it was all media would talk about. Oh Brady and leaving the pats, can he do it this time without them, like peyton manning and how he JUST had to win ONE last super bowl before he retired. Cause he as just SOOOOOOO skilled he could PREDICT and just know I’m gonna win this last season, just one more than retire. Yahhhhhhh 😴😴😴😴😴😴 fooled the WWF brain dead’s. Whole f’en season was STAGED for him to win, so ALLLLLLL of that bs could happen. The ceremony stuff etc. like I said LIFE Is UNPREDICTABLE, we could want our last game” or our “last fight” to be this world record breaking amazing was, SADLY not how life works, it DOES work that way, when it’s fixed/staged and BUILT to have that outcome. Aka “STORYLINE” and there are soooooooooo many in sports 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 wonder why? 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

I know nothing about cycling so I don't know why the competitor stopped like that. I'm curious why he didn't keep going. The part about the official smiling isn't something I even noticed until I read some of the comments here. I don't believe this official took any joy in having to make this call but he owed it to the rest of the athletes who followed the rules to judge this particular race in the same manner as all the others. All officials are targeted for a 50/50 ration of win/loss. For example, a baseball umpire, when calling a pitched ball a strike, is a hero to half the crowd and a villain to the other half. In this case, the official is a villain to the UK but a hero to the rest of the cyclists who followed the same rules and kept going. I don't mean to discount the heartbreaking and monumental letdown Jody Cundy must've been feeling in that moment. But consider the responsibility and the roles of each person out there. The official has to make the calls according to the rules. The competitor must compete within that set of rules. If the competitor stops competing, then the official must rule on this action. In this case, it appears they made the call of "DNF", Did Not Finish. Which, is basically what happened. Jody Cundy stopped competing. An immensely sad situation all around.

totally his fault, he went before the gate released the back wheel. the jolt of him throwing his weight forward and being caught by the gate still attached to him must have caused too much of a weight shift forward and he just spun. having used those gates before they are tricky to get just right. the confusing thing is that normally you do get one redo. but have been different rules for the Olympics.

I watched in .25 speed and you're right. Was it his fault for going before the gate released, or did the gate not release on time? I dunno... but sure feel for the dude for spending years of his life only to have his dreams dashed without a fair shot to make a run.

They were saying the gate was supposed to release automatically, they didn't specify if the timing started when the gate released, or if it started when the rider went, and the gate released immediately upon the bike pressure. What is clear is that the gate released after he went, causing his mishap.

From a Guardian article: "The opacity of the rules surrounding starts, which Cundy later said needed to be urgently clarified, were demonstrated by the fact that fellow British riders Lora Turnham and Fiona Duncan were granted a restart in the morning in the tandem race after the gate was judged to have failed." Why would he expect that his outcome would be different from theirs?

The official has wisely chosen to stand in front of the starting block, preventing a bike re-load (which would be more awkward when it is a no-go)... it looks like they have experience with this type of thing...
@1981stonemonkey
@1981stonemonkey 3 жыл бұрын
My first reaction was 'False start'. Let me explain. I guess swinging your body forward can get the bike out of the starting block, and add to the momentum you gain by powering down on the pedal, but that would only work AFTER the starting block releases the back wheel. Which I'm assuming is done simultaneously with the sounding of the high-pitched 'GO'-tone. What I noticed, at 0.25 speed, after pausing-rewinding at least 50 times, is this sequence of events: 1. Count-down reaches 1, last low tone is sounded. 2. Athlete swings forward way before the 'GO' tone, hence my 'False start' interpretation. 3. Count-down man shouts 'GO'. 4. The yellow spot on his back wheel turns forward slightly, then is abruptly stopped for an instant by the starting block. 5. High-pitched tone starts to sound during the 'GO' shout. 6. Back wheel starts turning again. 7. Athlete powers down on his left pedal. 8. His back wheel spins, and banks out to the left. Meaning his back wheel was released ever so shortly BEFORE he powers down on the pedal to transfer the maximum amount of force to the back wheel. So it wasn't a false start. But with a little less force, the wheel would not have slipped. The referee was right in my opinion. It was extremely close, though. What would have helped the athlete to understand the ref's decision is a camera filming the back wheel release mechanism while also recording the count-down and 'GO' tones. I understand the commotion there was (and is) because it was SO close. A world class athlete whose excitement got the better of him.

Actually, thats a good point. There was no call for a false start like everyone is implying. He did indeed stop and asked for a restart. I assume you are allowed a restart if the starting gate has an issue, but surely if you think there is an issue (and you are wrong) you should be entitled to restart it anyway. Because the alternative is to do the race only to then ask for one. And if you get one, you are going to be more tired than you were if you gave up and immediately asked. So regardless I feel like it was rough on him.

In my opinion, the wheel release on the left side of the starting block indicator latch released about .045 seconds later than the right side release latch. The caused the wheel imbalance and the strom vectoring indicated by left side wheel hub wobble. This is clearly visible when watched at slow speed at 4:24. This is why i don't approve of Dominion Brand starting blocks.

In drag racing, when you launch and spin your tires and lose the race, that's part of drag racing - it's about knowing how to throttle out of the gates. Not sure if similar rules apply here, because this isn't drag racing, but it is a similar situation. you don't get do overs just because you spun your tires.

He shrugs because he's telling them they can't give him a restart considering the equipment wasn't faulty. What Jody did, was push extremely hard on one petal while the bike wasn't released yet, then when it was released it made him tilt a lot. It's not like these officials want to ruin his training and everything, it's just not fair to the other participants that he made a fatal mistake and for some reason gets to redo. Like if a racecar smashes into a wall cuz he drove badly, he doesn't get a redo. If a sprinter reacted to the starting pistol badly, he doesn't get a redo cuz it's 100% his fault for not reacting quickly enough. What people don't know, is that the starting of a race is a huge training point of racers. Sprinters hone their reaction time to the max. He clearly messed up the start and the officials can't give him a free redo.

The way Cundy stayed so calm for so long is a victory by itself. I could say bad things about that ref but I just learned something from Cundy so I'll keep my mouth.

@@jumpingflash9319 basic physics. Force is what creates the displacement for velocity to achieve acceleration and win a race. the greater the force generally the greater the displacement. However he had an obvious loss of friction on a two pedal bike leaving him at an insurmountable disadvantage on the pull of his leg up for initial acceleration. the issue is simply was the tire spin the fault of equipment or did the rider jump the release. It appears the ruling was he jumped the release.

At 1:30 go play it at 0.25x speed you can clearly see he leaned forward putting pressure on wheels right before the timer/clamp let go hence causing the wheel to spin out. He wanted to gain extra edge and it backfired so no case for restart.... He should have just continue the race..... Second mistake requesting a restart
@TheAradune

He might have lost 1-2 seconds, but he still could have won the whole thing. Never stop in a track race unless you fall. It is not uncommon for tires to slip. The track isn't slippery but very hard and even. At 180-220psi you slip quite fast when you put too much pressure on the front. This wasn't the case here. He just went early and should be angry with himself, not the judges.

Proof there is no credible justice at times like this. Athletes who genuinely cheat get away with it or are fined/stripped of their success long after the event, whereas here, a genuine mistake from an athlete means DNF. No matter which country the athlete is from or who you root for, that is a shocking misjudgement from the officials. It's not as if sport's governing bodies are the height of purity, anyway.

It's easy to see and pause when hes launches off the rack before the buzzer even sounds, he anticipated it and tried gaining a few fractions of a seconds and it costed him his start. The damn coach is way off the mark, the athlete goes right in the middle of his coaches que and the actual buzzer, so he went early.
