This interview, captivated me from the start. I have also been seeing this drug going around on social media, was considering using it, as an easy way to lose weight without much effort. But now I will try the old fashion way, considering the fact that I am not diabetic or obese. Thank you, Gareth, for an informative interview and to Johann Hari, thank you for putting in the effort to do the research on behalf of all who will come across this podcast. God Bless the fruits of your labour and dedication.✝️

Very interesting podcast! Thank you! If the Covid vacc has taught us anything, it is to not be an early user. If I were obese, I would look at changing diet and lifestyle before using this drug and give it time to see what unfolds with long term use. Alternatively, assess the risks, use it for a short time to lose weight, then, after hopefully having changed your lifestyle and eating habits, discontinue its use and maintain your lower weight.

Wow. What a good listen. Opened up more doors to information for myself. My partner wants to take this drug, but I didn’t like the info out there. Use it in moderation if you have to. Seems like it will hell you in the future (if you are overweight or obese today), to choose healthier foods. Fast food is fast & convenient, that’s all it is.

I think the new GNU would be great candidates for this drug. 😅

Losing your appetite has downsides as well as upsides. If your diet is already short on nutrients (which is NOT the same as calories), you could end up with frank malnutrition. Remember that most of us are currently getting 60% of our energy from ultra-processed foods which are heavy on the calories but light on the micro-nutrients (vitamins, minerals, protein) which are vital for maintenance and repair of our cells. So, a reduction in food intake comes with a further reduction in the essential nutrients your body needs. So while Ozempic is designed to help you lose weight its by far a risk-free or healthy weight-loss strategy. As is suggested within a couple of months after starting Ozempic you WILL lose weight which might well seem to be a good thing. However, when losing weight, there is a good type and a bad type of weight loss. The good type of weight loss is losing excess fat. By contrast, a bad type of weight loss is when you lose muscle. This is the last thing you want to happen because losing muscle mass can lead to long-term health problems such as Sarcopenia. Muscle loss is an inevitable part of aging, which is why maintaining muscle mass as we get older is a key predictor of long-term health and longevity. Since maintaining muscle mass is vital, it is important that you stay active to ensure you are losing weight in a healthy way. We recommend resistance or strength exercise and to uprate the protein content in your diet.

Lifestyle changes where food is concerned is still important after losing weight due to Ozempic.

Ozempic removes belly fat. That Novo Nordisk-funded study of almost 2,000 overweight or obese adults without diabetes also found their visceral fat - the type that accumulates in the belly - was reduced from baseline with semaglutide, along with their total fat mass.
