also, lyrically, i think they're trying to tell us that, if something makes us happy, we don't need anyones approval to do it. in sugas verse he sings "there's no one to prove" and "there's always something in the way" telling us to not overthink and live in the moment. in their words, "live just like we're golden" overall, super simple composition but its so upbeat catchy and hopeful, something we really need. they also seem overall alot goofier and happier in this mv. i love it so much,, i can't watch it without smiling.

I agree on first listen I did like Butter better, but yes, this will grow on you as I have fallen more in love with it as I’ve listened to it more during streaming. I can’t get the smile off my face and I tear up whenever I think of them singing this at a concert with ARMY and doing the dance🥲 I hope I get to see them in concert someday 💜 I love the addition of the ISL and everyday people in the video like encouraging us to hang on and still have fun because even though it’s getting better it’s not quite over yet. On a different note, how did we survive JK, V, and Jin having button issues; the entire rap line singing, Hobi in chaps, JK’s spin, and RM & Suga just looking fine all in one video?

I feel like permission to dance is a song you need to be in a specific mood for and then it’s exactly what you need in the moment. Butter didn’t really have a message but was a super exciting and interesting song and permission to dance has a message but isn’t as exciting musically. They are just for different moods and I think it’s great that there’s variety.

The live from Butterful Getaway was so so good! Their voices without the processing were amazing! I didn't even realize until watching the live that all three rapline members had two lines because Yoongi was singing higher than he had in stuff like Seesaw and he sounded so good. Jin has also been wrecking me with this video. All their stylists were killing it though with these outfits and hair. I think a lot of people had the same initial reaction as you but we should keep in mind this is a b-side written by other people, a fun, inclusive pop song to invite in more English speaking listeners. Most of their music still sounds like them and I think will continue to. I'm excited for the next full album but will be dancing around to this and Butter til then!

I feel like I'm having the opposite experience of most Army's in that Dynamite and especially Butter really had to grow on me, but Permission to Dance I liked sonically right away. I do prefer more simple backing tracks though, so I actually prefer the more standard chord progressions in PTD. Plus I love that we got to hear all 7 members sing!

Totally love and respect the honesty. I was thinking maybe a thicker baseline would have gave it that much more punch but I think it was a careful balance for them so it didn't come out sounding like Dynamite 2. I think to say not on top tier of ones faves is okay but some ARMYs have been downright rude said BTS not BTS anymore or suggesting they were forced to do this song or acting like they have been doing English songs for years and acting like BTS will never do another Korean song ever :( It's sad especially when released on Army day and the boys worked really hard on it. Nothing wrong with liking their other songs better but another thing to claim Army but disrespect the guys or their integrity to their music because of 1 song or not liking the English releases. 😑

I don’t think this is the only direction they’re gonna go going forward. But If it is, I hope they do it because they want to, or they just want to be versatile. But if they continue to do this style of music it’s shouldn’t be because they think this is what it takes to gain western audience or a Grammy. Even if it is, the Grammys are stupid anyway and they don’t have enough merit for them to change their sound/approach. They’re perfect and brilliant the way they are, the way they always have been. In any case, BTS are amazing artists and so sweet to recognize their fans and the current situation going on with the world.
