Theoretically yes, but it will be tougher. I recommend doing the drop version of this technique on a shorter person if you attempt it.

As someone who is 6"7, no. I have been doing judo since I was 4. Used to be one of my favorites. Rn impossible to do with good technique. Against people who are like 5 7 to 6 0 you can try to brute force it, but then there are others who are more effective

@@guuskeizers8457On a fundamental level it totally makes sense, you would have to drop your hips so low to be able to get underneath them that it just becomes unrealistic to hit it while standing

You need to show people how to create Kuzushi, you’ll never pull this off from a stand still and you’re putting yourself in a vulnerable position if you try.

Never got this in randori without dropping to my knees.

I had that same problem. It helps to master the mechanics of the hip toss first. It helps you maintain your balance through the shoulder throw.

I feel like the drop is kind of like a cheap move, and if you fail you end up in a choke hold. Yeah that's how I won one of my matches.
@dbuck1964Ай бұрын
Drop seoi nage is a legit throw, but just like what this guy isn’t showing, you have to know how to get the opponents balance moving forward before you try it.
@abefernandez654611 ай бұрын
I think the hip throw is the most popular cause it's in other arts and are easier to pull off. This throw can be countered by putting a hand on the lower back so he doesn't have the leverage to pull you over.

False technique…The hand should not be on the top of the shoulder but to lock it between your forearm and shoulder… this is basic, a white belt judo player knows this

Funny, the very first time he starts to demonstrate the motion he does it correct. Then he proceeds to screw it up every time afterwords, putting himself in a chokehold lol.

Great way to get choked out great for Olympic events, but not for the street if someone’s as good as you are a choking, you’re done or let alone taking the eyes right from your head as they have your back don’t give your back not these days not a good idea bring back the street Trudeau‘s worlds getting weak I know this guy still good at probably work on 99% of the people but it’s not the right way to think self-defense

Hard throw to land in jitz because 75% of the dudes bend at the waiste and stiff arm you. Its easier to land footsweeps and forward throws using your leg. For example, uchi mata is a good one to catch a bent over player with. However, "drop" seo nagi is a realistic option.
@ValleyDragon Жыл бұрын
Dropping to one knee can defeat the hand in the small of the back counter. You can also drop to both knees and sit. Might be a wrestling style counter. Our Sensei would bring in Wrestling Coaches.
@danielleclair1360 Жыл бұрын
@@ValleyDragon Yup. Chain wrestling is key. Everyone is looking for that explosive ippon or 10 point throw. If you chain together your gripfighting and attacks 2-3 setups, to a throw or takedown. Youll have way more success then just telegraphing the obvious double or hiptoss.
