In the beginning, obito is (usually) late with a weak excuse… kakashi is the same in the OG Naruto’s “sorry, I got lost on the path of life”… I think he visited the ninja war memorial before every mission they went on, I think they even eluded to that in the OG Naruto

Technically, he's always losing chakra just from having the eye, he covers it so he doesn't lose MORE chakra from the sharingan working (anticipating movement, copying jutsu) by itself without him being able to directly control it

The sharingan analyzes things automatically and it drains chakra. That's why the Uchiha turn it off, to conserve their chakra. But since Kakashi is not an Uchiha, he doesn't have the ability to turn it off. So he covers his eye as a manual way to turn it off.

@@WhatsIQ It does still work but analyzing a black screen doesn't take much chakra. Compare it to carrying bags filled with stuff for a certain time to carrying empty bags. You still need to carry the bags but the empty ones take no energy.

I love how big of an impact Obito made in Kakashi after he passed. Just go back to the 2nd bell test with Naruto and Sakura. Kakshi's reason forr being late "There was this old lady who needed my help". It wasnt just the scum line from Obito that changed him. Having Obito as a friend really loosed up how Kakashi was after his fathers death.

Here you can see the reason why Kakashi use a mask permanently, it's due for two reasons: 1. A way to keep perpetual memorial for his father (symbolizes the initial shame he felt for considering his father a traitor, and because all the acusations that he received from the people of the village). 2. Because he can't voluntarily deactivate his sharingan since he isn't an Uchiha, his sharingan therefore consumes too much of his chakra, that's the reason why in combat, he gets exhausted very quickly. Under normal conditions (if he didn't have Obito's eye), Kakashi have huge chakra reserves, so he wouldn't run out so quickly. It seems that you didn't realize that the sharingan is actually the perfect complement to the chidori, remember that Minato forbade Kakashi to use the chidori because although it was a very powerful technique and requires the use of great speed (something that Kakashi possesses), but it also left him open and vulnerable to receive a deadly attack because due to his speed, he couldn't control the attack to defend himself from his attackers. The sharingan in this case, allows Kakashi to anticipate enemy attacks even when he keeps his guard down due to the chidori. Exactly as you say, Kakashi inherited Obito's attitudes and philosophy, that's why his habit of arriving late and his constant being lazy or carefree. However, the real reason why he's always late, is because he deviates from his route to visit the graves of his friends who fell in combat, the next thing is to make an excuse such as that an old lady crossed his path or that a black cat was passing by and he had to take another route, etc. On the other hand, you will soon understand why Kakashi never had close relationships (yep, he's a virgin), why never got married and why he refuses close company. Kakashi have one of the saddest stories in all of Naruto, but at the same time, he is an admirable character, someone who despite everything he lived through did not choose to follow a dark road full of hate and revenge (like Sasuke) even when he had good reasons. That's why for many people into the fandom (including me), Kakashi is usually their favorite character. Sorry my english dude, I use translator 😅.

There is truly a lot of story and importants just within these 2 episodes. If you remember Minato told Kakashi not to use the chidori because of how fast of a jutsu it is and that he cannot ascertain enemy's counter attack. With the Sharingan is he able to do so, which is why he was still using it and was able to teach Susake the jutsu, but not Naruto. Also, this builds more backstory that is important for Kakashi and other characters as well.

My theory as to why Kakashi got promoted so young other then being highly skilled due to being trained from birth by his father who was also powerful is that there was more war at the time, war loses probably forced the village to promote younger shinobi to replace losses, whereas in Naruto's time it was mostly peaceful so they weren't constantly losing people.

On the manga this Kakashi back story was after OG Naruto and before Shippuden. After all the fillers there was nothing else to watch for a long time I wanted to know what happens next so I peeked on the Manga, which I usually avoid due to spoilers, this shit hit so hard 😭 A year later I was confused why it didn't show up on the start of Shippuden I was getting worried they skipped on this very important back story, turns out they just saved it for later🤷‍♂ Also, Kakashi's Sharingan was the missing piece for his Chidori, that's why Sasuke was a perfect fit for it ⚡
