If anybody is wondering, this is Shotokan karate. Take a bit of this and mix in some Goju Ryu and you have Kyokushin.

Take both of those, make sure your Goju Ryu has a bunch of Tegumi, and add in Kodokan Judo, and you have the original Kyokushinkai that lived with Masutatsu Oyama and died with Kenji Kurosaki’s co-creation of Dutch Kickboxing.

@@mysticramen4104 Kenji Kurosaki was the golden boy of Kyokushinkai and was really the one hyped up to continue the line. When he left, the main school of Kyokushinkai, and most of the offshoots, just lost all the judo and wrestling. Kenji used it often, but after leaving Kyokushin, it basically left with him. It got phased out of the other branches, and now it’s mostly relegated to smaller individual schools. Unless you go learn Kudo. But even then they don’t emphasize the “Karate” aspects as much. OG Kyokushin was far more rooted in Goju-Ryu and Shotokan, and much more distinct for it, even during live combat.

I started with Shotokan at 8 years old. At 12 I started Uechi-ryu. At 27 I trained Shito-ryu until I was 32 (went only until 2'dan), then I came back to Uechi-ryu (I'm 6' dan now), but, oh boy, I miss Shotokan techniques. They look simple but they have huge power. Big respect here from Uechi-ryu.

The problem I have with karate self-defense techniques is that your attacker when you practice is using karate punching… If you’re out on the street nobody nobody in the world uses karate style punching they don’t chamber their fist down at the hip and then do a front punch or a reverse punch… They will stand and fight like a boxer even if they are not a good boxer that is the way they will attack you… Self-defense should always be practice with somebody that’s coming at you like a boxer not a karate person.

This is likely less strict like Japanese styles and more focused on adapting Shotokan to the Okinawan mindset of Karate. Kinda like the opposite of Goju-Kai (a Japanese take on Goju-Ryu for the most part)
