I just want to believe that Kaneko is enjoying life in his retirement. He did what was best and I'm 100% sure Atlus mistreated him. I'm also not a big fan of current Doi & Soejima works (playing too safe, sometimes too dull, although I see their skill), but Kaneko has some faith in them,so it'll be interesting to know what his honest opinion about their handling of series P.S. not sure about his last involvement since Persona 1 PSP new design looked like pure garbage (in my opinion) and whitewashes edginess in favor of marketability to modern persona fans. Conclusion: Fuck Atlus, but the irony, of course, is that I'l sure be playing their new games.

When it comes to anything negative about Atlus as of late, I find myself asking the same question, how much of it is the fault of Atlus, and how much is the fault of Sega? Atlus has never been a perfect company by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems over the past decade (right around when they were aquired by Sega) things have gotten noticably worse in many areas.
@DragonKingX782 жыл бұрын
It might be both, who knows.
@jeezycreezy42202 жыл бұрын
@@DragonKingX78 it is possible, but I'm not 100% convinced. Sega needs to make their investments on Atlus back, investments that run deeper than just the initial aquisition. Sega is the one footing the bill for development and publication of games, manufacturing of merch, marketing, ect. The SMTV and Soul Hackers 2 DLC controversies and the lack of free upgrade of P5R from PS4 to PS5 is most likely Sega's doing in order to make more money off of those products. As far as Kaneko goes, I can't say the full extent of Sega's involvment in that situation, but as far as removing his copyrights from artbooks, as was pointed out in the video, that most likely stems from Sega taking full ownership of Atlus' IPs and their associated images, which would include all artwork Kaneko did for SMT and Atlus as a whole.
@zeroskaterz922 жыл бұрын
Gotten noticably worse how? Atlus have been consistently the same even before Sega bought them. Sega might've forced them to push out DLCs but then again, if you look at the way RGG Studio handle the DLCs versus the way Atlus handle the DLCs, you can't really blame on Sega entirely. It's all comes down to Atlus themselves on how to handle their own projects.
@jeezycreezy42202 жыл бұрын
@@zeroskaterz92 when I say Atlus has gotten noticably worse since the Sega aquisition, I'm referring to bussiness practices like the DLC stuff. The games themselves have been great, and there are some good things that have come from being owned by Sega, such as simultanious worldwide releases and access to incredible game engines such as Unreal.
@zeroskaterz922 жыл бұрын
@@jeezycreezy4220 Again, those shit aren't new. Atlus business practice has been consistently shitty even before Sega bought them. It's one of the reasons why they almost went bankrupt but they don't need to worry about that shit now because Sega backed them up.

And now we know he has left Atlus altogether, and that he did so some time ago. And as someone else pointed out, it is quite different from how it was when Meguro left. Meguro got all sorts of well wishes and the like and it was big news. Kaneko meanwhile just disappeared and we only know that he left from a second hand source well after he found a new place. It just creates the impression that the departure was not done on amicable terms. This mixed with other smaller factors makes it feel like they just had a lot of spite for him and just wanted to get rid of him. This despite how iconic he is and being one of the companies founding fathers.

Larrue your the man, thank you so much for this great content. I love Kaneko I feel like he's probably the most important guy in megaten. I don't know why but I just have this hunch that he got upset because he wasn't given much freedom or say and how he wanted things to evolve. SMT 5 is a great example of how it went downhill without him in my opinion. SMT 4 and 3 my favourite. And I think it's because there was a lot of involvement from him. I'm very sad that he left. I have a feeling he wanted to go more hardcore and create more but SMT 5 for me was almost like persona. Atlus really messed up not trying to keep him and listen to him because I feel like he made megaten. This is just my feeling and thoughts on what I think happened. I am also an artist and I can understand him. I can see his vision and his development through his games and since he left smt5 was just a disaster in my opinion compared to what megaten really stands for. Just the music composing of course is good and his demon designs that got carried over. I think I might be going hard on SMT 5 , but I think if Kaneko had involvement in it it would have been way better

@@Larrue I see. Unrelated, but how would you find about differences between either character names or things when comparing the media/game from japanese to english? The problem here I have is that a character's definitive name is revealed in the game's japanese staff roll (but the game doesn't give the character's full katakana). However in the english version it blurs quite a bit because only the first bit of their name is given with their last name implying it's different than the japanese games'. The staff roll in the english however removes the character's names and their voices, along with the other project details however.

How much was he involved in the DDS games?
@Larrue2 жыл бұрын
The story was based on ideas he had among other things like designing the characters
@Kageryushin2 жыл бұрын
@@Larrue Incidentally, DDS was also drafted by Yu Godai, who left the project partway due to health issues, leaving the overall plot in an incomplete state. She later went on to fully fill in what she intended for the narrative in the Quantum Devil Saga light novel series. A lot of the places where the dev team had some amount of a plot outline but had to fill in improvised content because the details hadn't been fully defined by Godai become clear when you look into QDS.
@Larrue2 жыл бұрын
@@Kageryushin Yeah her draft was based on Kaneko's ideas I believe her work only extended into the first game, QDS is a pretty different beast altogether.
@Kageryushin2 жыл бұрын
@@Larrue I'm certain Kaneko had involvement at the idea stage, but the narrative execution of DDS up until Seraph enters the Sun (you know, when the plot kind of starts sucking a bit) was really Godai's baby. In a lot of ways, it's clear from QDS that it's actually a very roundabout reimagining of SMT2; the whole idea of artificially created ubermenschen being brought up in a virtual reality going off the rails set up by their creators and eventually coming to a (sort of) confrontation with God, the source of the issues plaguing the setting, although the details of the story are dramatically distinct. In that sense, it _is_ fundamentally based off Kaneko's ideas, but I'd say it's very clear from QDS what Godai was bringing to the table, and it definitely wasn't just content from the first game. The entire basis of the real world outside the Junkyard was already conceptualized by Godai and is much more detailed in QDS. Cuvier Syndrome, the nature of the Sun, the Karma Society and Lokapala, many of the characters staffing those organizations, that the Embryon all had "real world" counterparts they were based on - all of that had already been determined by Godai, but details such as "why it's relevant that Angel is both Sera's mother _and_ father" which were basically just weird little minutiae in DDS2 are actually explained in QDS. Although there are plenty divergences in execution between DDS2 and QDS (Heat temporarily betrays the party for reasons he thinks are morally just in both stories, but he never becomes Vritra in QDS, for example), the biggest difference is ultimately that, once they leave the Junkyard, it takes place entirely on the ruined Earth, and the Sun never becomes a dungeon with all the filler that entails. Since you have considerable skill in Japanese, I would highly recommend reading it, since it really puts the plot of DDS as a whole into a much clearer perspective. That said, I do feel the need to warn you ahead of time that Godai is a brazen fucking fujoshi with all that entails, but I doubt you give a shit about DDS for the shipping.
