I loved that Keith came back and asked Rick questions too. I think that shows how relaxed he was. Rick is a master of getting people to forget their being interviewed.

Keith is such a cool dude. About 12 years ago I auditioned for American Idol in Chicago. I made it past the producer auditions and got a chance to do the TV audition. I was very raw and the audition did not go as well as I would have liked. Randy, Mariah, and Nicky gave me curt "no's" but Keith took the time to talk to me. He asked if I had ever got voice lessons. I said I had not and was untrained. He encouraged me to get some training and said he heard an instrument that could be developed but had not been trained. I was devastated at the time but I held to his advice sought out a voice teacher and began a path of learning how to sing and finding so much more enjoyment in music. I am grateful that he encouraged me that I could be better. Those judges work long days on those auditions and he didn't have to take the time but I think he remembers all the encouragement he received and how much it helped him.

He was such a good, compassionate judge and his authentically being a fan of music, and "feeling" toward the contestants came through. He just seems like a good dude. Tks for sharing that story and I'm glad his "mentoring" advice helped you on your musical journey. Shows how for an artist, or just someone yearning to try and do something, how delicate a thing it is for them to put things out there and how easily a word, opinion, coming from anyone, insensitive or helpful, can truly make an impression and difference.

I think Keith Urban's goal is to encourage. He had many critics in his very early years and he used it for fuel to push on. He's a very compassionate guy because he's been there in judged contests. He would really love hearing about you and your story Hope you are doing well with your music 🎶

Keith’s guitar playing is amazing. I used to listen to more country and found Keith with Golden Road and stayed with him until about 10 years ago, but everytime I hear a song of his… I always generally like it. Never really feels like country tho - more country rock or pop rock.

I saw Keith perform two nights ago in the local Bucee’s parking lot (Athens,AL.) He performed a free show that was only announced a few hours beforehand. About 10,000 people showed up. Before the show he was inside the Bucee’s preparing brisket for the customers. The show was phenomenal and Keith is as humble as a superstar can possibly be.

I don’t usually comment on social media but this interview warmed my heart. I immediately remembered seeing a young boy playing in a cover band on a truck bed outside of the Bundaberg distillery in Queensland many years ago. At that time I had no idea who he was and didn’t even know he could sing. Over the years that young boy turned into a musician that continues to warm my heart, not just for his music but for the joy, enthusiasm and humility he brings to his art. A lovely interview Rick and Keith

Keith's Crossroads "duet" with John Mayer was absolutely top and for anyone who doesn't know how great a guitar player he is, watching him with Mayer tells you all you need to know. If I had my wish, Mr Urban and Mr Mayer would tour together from time to time, especially here in England and Europe and I know the demand for tickets would be enormous. For me, it's guitars first, but they are great singers, harmonise together like they were born to it and the combination of Urban and Mayer songs is second to none. I just need some ruby slippers to make my wish on...

Your channel has created a different level of interest for me in music, I know I’ll never be a musician but I’m beginning to gain a greater appreciation for what I’m listening to and what it takes to create good music versus not so great. Thank you and kudos to you for getting Keith Urban on the channel. Glad to see this one. In my Nashville years, I was supporting Curb records artist, Shane McAnally and wound up on a radio station promo gig with Keith, who had just launched his solo career after his band The Ranch had folded, in Mobile, Alabama. After out set, Keith came up and paid me some nice compliments on my playing and I returned them after his set. We stayed at the same hotel and hit the Waffle House after the gig and jammed in a hotel room until the wee hours. Months later, I ran into him at the Sportsman's Grille restaurant in Nashville and we had a brief reunion in the parking lot where I was letting my dog out of the car and he said how much he loved my dog. We wound up on festival bills several times over the years and I have enjoyed watching him blossom as an artist and achieve such success.

I don't listen to much Country, so don't know Keith's music at all. But, he's such a genuine, humble guy, great interview / talk. I love all the guitar and recording tech talk... I'll go listen to him now.

This is a fabulous interview-one of the best I've seen! You mentioned Mary Martin, and I haven't thought of her in years. She used to come into my garden center in Nashville (Moore & Moore), and we would talk forever. She was one of the coolest people I knew.

Omg! This is the best interview I've ever heard that really allows you to realize the guitar and musical genius that is Keith's own, uniquely! I may not know what he's referring to, but I do understand that he does and is so knowledgeable and experienced in the guitar world as well as the music he's inspired to create. He is such a deep well of knowledge and wisdom!!

So thrilled to hear you mention " Sneakin Sally". So much soul on that album. "How Much Fun" is my go to when I'm over thinking driving myself into the ground about something. It always makes me smile. Out of all the people in the whole Keith....you are in my top 5 of people I would love to meet just to say "THANK YOU" for what you've given me. No selfies...no autographs....just...THANK YOU

Such a great conversation. I love it when Rick asks Keith to playing something and he just strums an A chord. That's his genuine humility. He knows he could shred something crazy or riff something funky, but he just strums the A and talks about tone. So good! Listening to the artist talk about his love for the art is just priceless.

Rick's interviews are so amazing because he's a musician interviewing another musician which adds a a layer of depth and that is only possible between people who speak the same language...music. 🎼

I listened to Avenged Sevenfold and Five Finger Death Punch before discovering Urban. I loathed country music. I worked at a Tex Mex restaurant that only played country. I swore my ears bled daily and then a song came on after close….take your records take your freedom take your memories I don’t need ‘em…I immediately said who sings THIS??? Keith Urban. My husband just walked out so it was the right song at the right time. I got my first guitar because of Keith!!!! I adore country music.
