I remember reading a comic about two boys in scotland that took a ride on a kelpie. Long story short, one of them drowned and the other cut his arm off to get away. The one that survived buolds his house by the pond to prevent others from drowning.

Prehistoricpawprint I think it was just his hand, not his entire arm. He had only been touching the kelpie when the other got on. Once it had its victim, it took on its highly adhesive properties and ran for the water. Only by cutting off the affixed hand could the boy escape.
@hannahkeler18162 жыл бұрын
Excellent storytelling. The idea that Kelpies can take the shape of people they have previously drowned appears particulary creative to me. Or at least that's what the story seems to suggest.

This kind of reminds me of a story I heard second hand from my older brother not to long ago. When Our mom was a little girl, who's dad was second generation Irish living in the foothills of Appalachia, she said one night she saw light moving down the mountain and floating around the house of one of their neighbors and a sound like a woman screaming could be heard. She told her dad and he quickly ran to the windows and shut the blinds and turned the lights off in the house without really an explanation and made her go to bed early that night. Well, the next day, it turns out that the neighbor's baby had died that night in it's sleep. I'm not saying my mom saw a Banshee or anything like that lol She was a well known prankster who liked to tell us ghost stories, me and my brother inherited that from her. I just always liked that story and thought it was kind of creepy.

This is some truly immersive story telling. It must be the tone! Being a horse owner and mythology lover, Kelpies have always captivated me. The Kelpie is viewed as a deceitful, opportunistic, man eater. We clearly revere the fish that we hunt and eat. We do so in our paintings, in photographs, and in how we hone our skills. I wonder if the things in the water view us the way we view Kelpie? Maybe we should practice more ethical fishing like the boy in the story? On the flip side of the coin, we have stories of great black horses pulling men out of the water and thus saving their life. Walter Farley's "The Black Stallion" for instance. That story was partly inspired by the adventures of Alexander the Great and his horse Bucephalus (who was said to be tricked by Apollo). Which brings another interesting point. In the majority of mythology, we find equines to be mostly benevolent creatures. As shown here with the unicorn contrast. Kelpie is one of the only horse of myth (that I know of) that brandishes a malevolent nature. What a fascinating creature and so deserving of such great story telling. You are a true bard Sir. I hope more become your patron. Safe travel!

i love the stories! it makes me think of how my grand parents would listen to radio programs back in the day
@sigmacademy6 жыл бұрын
This would be the modern day version of that. In your grand parents' time, television wasn't invented yet/or not sophisticated as it is today, so radio was the main entertainment medium. Stories were told on the radio, and people had to use their imagination to visualize the stories. In my opinion, this helped creativity a lot more than television, which does not require the viewer to visualize anything.

Well i think u forgot that the kelpie is some say "mind controlling" whenever u hear its noise u can't pull away unless ur "lucky."

@Mythology & Fiction Explained I wouldn't consider the Kelpie to be categorized as a "Creepypasta" creature but, rather, it seems to be a close resemblance of a Hippocampus but maybe of a different breed perhaps cause they share some what or not of a relation due to their appearance and where they live. But the Kelpie is only found in waters of Scotland so, just to my on plausible theories, the Kelpie has changed it's appearance in the waters of Scotland and, somehow, became a twisted and corrupted into a unholy creature that was compelled by some sort of sorcerer/wizard of whom to be experimented upon cause there are stories foretold of such magic in the outskirts or in villages in and from Scotland, or it adapted when a Hippocampus developed some sort of power to convert itself to an amphibious creature.

It's certainly not a creepypasta creature I've never claimed it was, I've not done many creepypastas so I've tried to keep them folklore/mythology based to keep in theme with the channel.

Trying to maintain 4 or 5 uploads a week. There was a period early on where I was uploading 6 or 7 times a week but they were short videos that didn't really go into any detail.

I'm from the Faroe Islands, which north of Scotland and about half way between Iceland and Norway. We also have a similar folktale about the Kelpie (we call it Nykurin) and about the seal people (selkies), with the story about a particular seal woman (we call her kópakonan). The seal people weren't evil, and they could only take of their seal skin one day a year. If you stole a seal woman's seal skin, then she wouldn't be able to return to the sea and you could force her to marry you. They were said to be particularly good wives and excellent mothers, but they would never be truely happy on land, and would take their skin back and leave for the sea at every chance they got. They also had to ability to curse you, if you hurt their families as revenge for her fleeing you. :)
