I've got a few comments right off the bat: I was delivering a load of house logs to Heber, Utah, my cell died found a payphone at a old gas station, which would have worked but someone yanked the wires out. Those band clamps I've found a napa, car quest, and half the truck stops I've stopped at. What do you think they "learned" in kansas- must be big to name a town after it.

Don’t be to hard on yourself for not being home for everything that goes on. Time will work it’s way out , I have 3 kids I worked all the time seemed like I was missing everything but I made it to what I could and all the big stuff. I worked 5,6,7 days a week and at least 3 or 4 of them were 16 hr. shifts in a factory. Well I’m 59 yrs old and been retired for 4 months, kids are grown but all live right next to us on the farm.So now is my time with them and the grandkids !!!! Live the best life God has given you !!

The new trucks are headaches because of the fuel Management technology, plastic and the thousands of sensors in trucks and cars. Today's people can't work in heat, and can't live without a computer and cell phone. Your rig is what most driver's like. No EGR, no DEF tank, a good solid rig.

my heart goes out to you Kurt for what you are trying too do with being a family man and a truck driver. but I have been watching and hearing in your voice since you started doing the short trips trying too be home for every game and every tryout and just everything your kids are into and don’t get me wrong that is a very noble idea but you have two great kids that are into a bunch of different sports and other events too where you basically feel guilty if you aren’t home five nights a week and gone two days a week and it is totally eating you up even when you are home you aren’t getting rest and time too recover and reboot for the next week and you end up pretty much driving all over taking the kids too get something they need or want and going too ball games or trap shooting matches or band competitions and then at the last minute you need too rush around and get groceries and other things you need for the week in first class and get he ready and still try and be a husband and spend time with warden and you end up driving all night after you are completely burned out from the prior week and pretty much going nonstop while you were home and you mentioned a couple videos ago about if you are home for awhile you find yourself trying too hide from the family. I can see when you are on the road all you can do is think about getting back home then when you are home you are thinking about being back on the road so you can be home again for the next ballgame and you definitely don’t have any time to work on first class doing even the minor little things that can save you a lot of money as an owner operator. it is eating you up. your son and daughter are old enough too understand how it takes money to live and be able too have fun and you have too work in order to make that money and the job or profession that you like and are good at requires you too be gone and maybe only make half the games but it will allow you too slow down and enjoy your family time on the weekends or whenever you choose too be home maybe it is two week days so you can go to a game of both of the kids but I don’t think you can continue trying too be everywhere at once and not enjoying being anywhere. and I agree you can’t make enough money right now hauling grain locally so you could be home every night and if you got off the road and took a job punching a time clock especially a inside job like factory work it would tare you up even more and you would start resenting your family IMHO you just need to admit you are human and you can’t be everywhere you want too be it doesn’t make you less of a father or husband and I believe it will lead to you and them enjoying the time you can spend together much more

Hi Kurt we all go thru phases, they come, go. An each person's phases are different.. An 1st class is going thru 1, now brother 1st classes will too pass, with some good Ole TLC from you she'll keep respecting you with many more yrs/miles!! Just like a marriage.. I remember my Ole white 91 Pete 379 former SWIFT company truck, yes they ran large cars believe it are not, I have the photos, proof..They teamed them from El Paso, TX.- L.A., CA. pulling doubles on I-10. It was a real diamond in the rough but I saw potential in her, changed both rusty stacks in the dark at the Petro 1 nite, kept saying "I'll save over $2,000.00 a mnth, it's mine free, clear yes sir with your help lord!!" An the after photos remind me it was worth it, no regrets, it was licensed for 5 Southeastern states. An when she was finished I leased it to Packard transport, went out your neck of the woods, got a lot of 👍's!! So stick with it Kurt, God Bless you, family, Opie..

Pro tip. You what awesome AC and heat like a new truck replace your heater box. There are two great aftermarket companies that make the Kenworth heater box. shoreline manufacturing makes an all stainless steel box. jemali corp makes an all aluminum heater box. Both are awesome. Which ever one you chose, use the included plug piece to cap off the fresh air intake. Because your fresh air intake door is rusted and must likely not even able to close and seal properly anymore letting dirt fill your cores up.
@bryanmccullough29933 жыл бұрын
Turn off the heat to the heater box if not needed...this keeps the heat out of the truck..i also found that older trucks the fan speed becomes slower over time..high cool with high fan speed may be more efficient than low..i know it seem like everyone knows this..but medium fan speed in a older truck is like low and may freeze up in the dash.( or part way) ...

Exhaust leaks are no joke. A husband wife team I know had problems the day after Kenworth"fixed" a recall issue on the exhaust. They loaded in Memphis and she opened the curtain to wake him near Jackson and she couldn't get a response. She pulled over and he had a pulse but unconscious. She called 911 and they brilliantly told her the fastest way to get him help was for her to drive to just before Nashville . Ended up being carbon monoxide poisoning. He recovered to 60% of his prior self mainly breathing and concentrating issues. Unfortunately the airflow change after opening the curtain did serious damage to his wife. Brain scans show severe damage. She tried even cashiering at a grocery store and couldn't function. 6 years later and half a million in medical debt they chose to accept a settlement to end the legal posturing. The medical was paid and will be forever for related treatment and a trust fund to provide about 25% of what they were making. And this is a team employed directly for a pharmaceutical distribution company. They hauled literal truckloads of prescription drugs and were treated like that.

Funny story Kurt. One day I was driving through Kankakee Illinois and my 1965 Kenworth cabover and the universal joint went out right on the bridge about 100 yards from the Kenworth dealer. To make a long story short I was too poor to have it towed off the bridge so I walked down to the dealer and bought a universal joint and put it on while sitting on the bridge, a policeman came by and asked me if I was OK and I said Yes I will have it fixed in about an hour or less and he said OK just be careful and he went on. A sidenote I do not believe that a policeman would do that today he would make you call a wrecker and get it off the bridge.
