I’m not a blue belt yet been training off and on for almost a year just soaking up everything what should I expect?

Ask your instructor their expectations on how you can achieve your blue belt. Expect a lot of up an downs in training. You will have times where you understand everything and times you are extremely lost. Just keep coming back for more.

i am still a white belt, some of the guys i started with have gotten promoted recently, and when they were promoted the coach said there are others who are close, but there are a few things they need to figure out, but it is up to them to find that on their own, so ive been trying to fill in some of those holes (assuming i was one of the ones that is close) this video was helpful :)

I'm a 64 yo white belt. Been training for about 8-9 months. Instructor wants me to test for blue but I'm not sure I'm ready...told him I'm not worried about belts, figure in 10 or so years I'll probably be the most bad-ass white belt in the city.

When you talk about a certain amount mat time, the thing is that not all same amount of time spent on the mat is equal. That’s why it’s not a good indicator.

In my gym the coach asks to compete at least one time on each belt in order to get promoted, on top of being fluent with the curriculum and attending to enough classes.

Sounds like you put up good battles in training. I would suggest focusing on defense for a bit with the blue and purples. Work on survival. See how long you can survive in bottom mount or side without being tapped. Once you feel you can survive and escape on a consistent basis, start to chain position dominance with submissions 😊 Good luck!

Generally speaking, I think "most" places are very forgiving and fair on belt promotions. As a white belt, I notice that if a student knows & can display how to: Defend, Sweep, Escape or Submit consistently and with "decent" form you're good.

Yes, every school does it differently. More schools need to provide their students with more precise guidelines on what the instructors are looking for.

I’ve been a white belt for 5 years cause I trained in the gi for 2 years, got 3 stripes on my white belt, and then switched to a 10th Planet gym. Precisely a year later Covid lockdown happened. So we were forced to shut down. And then after we reopened after 6 months, I had to take time off to focus on my family. Now I’m training full time, and I couldn’t be happier! Honestly the color of the belt isn’t too important to me personally. It’s about the knowledge of the art.

I used to think that curriculum was the way to go, but as I approached purple belt, not so much anymore. I think the coach is looking to see if you understand the principles of bjj and not necessarily a certain set of techniques chosen by someone else. I like the luxury of deciding what I want to learn and/or keep in my particular game without anyone telling me that I must learn/use these other techniques. A lot of techniques aren't for me (i.e., my body type, my age, my preferences), and I'm glad I'm not beholden to learn certain stuff. I don't want to use spider guard or lasso or anything that's very grip-dependent, and I choose not to use these. Sure I learn the a bit during class, but I know I will never use these in practice.

Hi sir please tell me how many hours. Per belt blue=?,purple=? brown=? Black=? Please 🥺
@ChasenHill
@ChasenHill 4 жыл бұрын
Man that’s a hard question. It really depends on how frequently you are training. An easier way is by years. To achieve Blue = 1-2 years, Purple = 3-5, Brown = 1-3, so typically 8-10 years for Black.

@@ChasenHill Do you feel the timeline changes for Judo and wrestling experienced grapplers? The hard fast rules are brutal, as opposed to belts by skill.One of the Judo national training centers is in the same town, so olympic caliber Judokas come in wreck people browns, purples and some blacks. I've heard one bjj coach keeps those Judokas at white belt based on a timeline they adhere too.I dont agree with that.
@ChasenHill
@ChasenHill 3 жыл бұрын
@@TSM260 it's not always hard and fast. Each academy promotes differently. The most popular ways schools assess their students are on their completion performances. So, if you are skilled in other disciplines that help you perform well, then you might progress faster. There are other academics who promote based on knowledge, physiology on use of the techniques, and how well they progress inside their own academy. Much more curriculum-based. With the Judo question about sparring with other BJJ students, modern-day Judokas definitely are skilled on the feet but not as versed on the ground normally. So, maybe the instructor want's their ground knowledge to increase before awarding them a high rank in BJJ. That's just a guess.....
