This is such a great connection. There is actually a parable Tolle gives at the beginning of Power of Now that is very similar to Acres of Diamonds, and illustrates these principles so well - A beggar had been sitting by the side of a road for over thirty years. One day a stranger walked by. “Spare some change?” mumbled the beggar, mechanically holding out his old baseball cap. “I have nothing to give you,” said the stranger. Then he asked: “What’s that you are sitting on?” “Nothing,” replied the beggar. “Just an old box. I have been sitting on it for as long as I can remember.” "Ever looked inside?” asked the stranger. “No,” said the beggar. “What’s the point? There’s nothing in there.” “Have a look inside,” insisted the stranger. The beggar managed to pry open the lid. With astonishment, disbelief, and elation, he saw that the box was filled with gold. I am that stranger who has nothing to give you and who is telling you to look inside.

I don’t know how many times I have listened to the acres of diamond story before but somehow never related the “here” to a timeline meaning being present in the now. Instead I always looked at it from a location point of view (geographically), where you’re comparing yourself with others - the grass is always greener on the other side. That was such a huge “aha” moment to me. Also how you’re talking about valuing the journey equally as much as the fulfillment of the goal, makes me understand Earl Nightingale’s quote of success being “the progressive realization of a worthy goal” on a whole other level. It means that anyone who's on course toward the fulfillment of a goal is successful. It underligns for me the importance of enjoying and appreciating the journey. Great teachings, I thoroughly appreciate your contributions, thank you!!
