Warwick, I think your horses stand because they have no issues, they trust, they are not hassled. The whole trick is to be relaxed and allow, rather than use force. My own horses stand. All I can say is "halt, drop the reins, relax" and if the rider is not relaxed, how on earth can the horse be? There are behavioural standards a horse must achieve, and if we are relaxed and consistent, they find those standards. All we do is show them the way. There is an order to things. It takes a good horse to make a good rider, or how would the rider even know how it should feel? Equally, it takes a good rider to make a good horse. Love it. Thanks.

Hello again! To me, he teaches his mount to stand by offering a choice of stand-still-and-relax or keep working on something. The horse finds its own release and teaches himself; these are the lessons they retain. Cheers! :)

Love this video :) My horse doesn't have any specific "issues" I need sorted out. the only thing I need work on I my confidence. I have tried so many different trainers and I'm still just very anxious which makes it hard for me to train my horse (because I'm sort of busy training myself). I saw the video on someone who has never cantered and started cantering... That's my goal :) To have the confidence to just do it.

In Centered Riding, we're taught to spend about 75 percent of the time working on ourselves, the rest on our horses. If you're focusing on working out your own kinks, you are on the right track. A C.R. class might help.

If you listened exactly what I said at 1.43, and also at 3.00, that is the KEY ( that's what the title says, the KEY) to teaching a horse to stand still. How is that misleading ?
