Great video, love the Conan universe and the Exiled Lands. There is one piece of obscure lore I haven’t seen covered much. An early NPC on noob river, Arcos the Wanderer I think, mentions he’s seen people in the North across the Ghost Wall with similar bracelets but with and amber gem instead of our green. Thoughts?

The staff mentions archivist and ghost of said archivist that mentions how to break from bracelet. It is found out, originally using keystones would shut down ghost wall and bracelets with everyone walking out of exiled lands with rezma, conan and the player walking off together for another adventure as pillars that kept everyone in collapse and it would be ending, but was scrapped in development for unknown reason, i don't remember who found about it, but it something to keep in mind about the Keystone.
@Eradicati0nn Жыл бұрын
I'm guessing that was scrapped simply because of the massive plot hole potential. The freedom story hook is one of the most important ones, and not being able to use it would have really hampered the motivations of many characters

See now THAT I'd how it had always seemed to me. I'd say it creates more of a plot hole if it DOESNT do that, as powerful as those artifacts are.
@Sshar22 Жыл бұрын
A few nitpicks, if I may: 1) the artifacts that created the bracelets were 7 (ring of Set is missing) 2) we don't know if the keystone is one use only, upon using it the end game cinematic plays. We don't know if it can be reused after the Exile leaves. The Archivist hints that it can disable the Cursewall 3) one can talk with the Archivist and he too explains how the bracelets were created, the artefacts used, their possible location and how you can free yourself. (The staff is not needed) 4) talking with the Warmaker, the ring of Set is again mentioned and also the person who took it. The only plot hole I can spot is the sandstorm not stopping after repairing the Scourgestone. Lastly, I completely agree that actions done lore wise are one time only. It was an enjoyable video, please continue.

Idea for future update: those who leave the Exiled Lands get a cinematic showing that they got shipwrecked on the Isle of Siptah. Conversely, those who escape Siptah (if that's I thing, I've barely played there) get captured and sent to the Exiled Lands. Gives you some reason to finish the map you're on rather than just lose your character progression and start over.
@belisariussmith9095 Жыл бұрын
People have been asking for that since Siptah came out. You should also have the gear you had equipped on you stay with you (not your inventory, just equipment and maybe what's on your quickbar). That way you don't feel like your character was deleted, but also you're not totally OP with massive resources.

Is the Keystone one use though? It is one use for us as we use it and leave. We don't stay and release everyone. It is a keystone it should release everyone's bracelet. Either one at a time or all at once. As such to me their are two possible (head canon) solutions. One you have released yourself and you just want to get out and not attract the attention of the one that sent you here in the first place. Thoth Amon is going to learn someone was able to make the stone and will likely see someone that capable as a threat. Alternately it will release the Bracelets (or give the option to remove the bracelets) of everyone around but in game play mechanics everyone does it individually so that each person has to kill the bosses and you can't just cheese it. The Alternate is... once you use the keystone you disable all the bracelets. You may not disable the cursed wall but everyone in the exiled lands is free to leave from a lore perspective. From a game play one though if making the key stone unlocked all the bracelets it would likely require a server wipe to occur when you did that. While that would be a really interesting mechanic... It would kinda suck for players if on a PvP server you could literally wipe everything and start everyone over by being the first to make the Keystone. So for the Game it has to only release you and be one time use... but the idea that all that magic would only release a single bracelet is silly. Personally I like the idea of the keystone being permanent. From a lore perspective I can see you as the player using it and taking off. However I see Conan coming across it realizing that you did it and helping everyone. From a game perspective I would have liked to see Funcom actually give you the option of bringing Conan and Razma to the Altar and for you to be able to release your bracelet, Razma's and give the key stone to Conan to free those he see's fit to. From a lore perspective I think it would have tied up the loose end and been a nice book end to mirror the opening with Conan and Razma being involved.
@Opsydjon Жыл бұрын
There is one more issue on this topic. The keystone allows you to pass the green wall surrounding the land of exiles. Recall the conversation with the NPC next to the stone giants by the river. He says he saw other exiles with amber in their bracelets. Perhaps Mek knows about it and wants to destroy all the walls, i.e. the green wall of the exile lands and the second amber one which is the second layer (Where the adventures of the exile will be the subject of Conan Exiles 2, where the key item will be the Set's Ring) Therefore, for Mek, the key stone does not really matter .

Not sure where it says the Keystone is one-use only. Gameplay wise, once a player uses the keystone, it is consumed, yes. But that's mainly because using it ends the game and takes you back to the character creator. You can't give it to anyone else for the same reason why you can't give anyone else your gear or inventory items once you use it. But is that just a gameplay contrivance or an actual part of the lore of the Keystone? I've always thought the Keystone was a perfectly unique item that could only be crafted by retrieving the unique relics involved in the creation of the slave bond, but I didn't think it was consumed in the process.
@Eradicati0nn Жыл бұрын
I've always been under the assumption that the keystone is a single-use item. Looking at the design, it appears it would be pressed against the bracelet to unlock it, and the green gem within the Keystone would use the energy from the artefacts to dispell whatever magic keeps the bracelet locked. It's not written in stone that the Keystone is single-use, though that may be out of precaution against plot holes, or just willingly leaving it ambiguous. For all intents and purposes though, in both lore and gameplay, I would consider it single-use unless contradicting evidence came up in the future
@genewurmstein6710 Жыл бұрын
@@Eradicati0nn Honestly, either way makes for some pretty good storytelling opportunities. If it's single-use only, then more could be written about what the remaining exiles are doing to escape and/or dominate the region, like Mek-Kamoses. If it isn't, story could be written about the inevitable conflict that could ensue as different exile factions fight to try to steal the Keystone to free themselves and/or possess the ultimate bargaining chip for any newcomers to the region. Either way, if someone figured out a way to escape the Exiled Lands, the Black Hand would be all over it the moment they found out. They'd send someone to either lock down the Exiled Lands and ensure no one escapes, or to raid the place for every last useful item they can before the jury-rigged superprison breaks open. Which could be why the Stygian king is suddenly ordering a mass invasion in the Age of War... There's still references to a sorcerous mummy boss enemy you were supposed to fight at the Chaosmouth that was a creature coughed up by Toth Amon to prevent the Keystone from being created. It was supposed to have the Serpent Ring of Set on it, which Toth Amon stole from the Unnamed City just before the first Exiles started getting sent to the region. The ring was mentioned by the Archivist as an item needed to forge the Keystone, though he admits that it might be impossible to build the Keystone anyway since the ring was stolen. He merely hopes that the remaining items are powerful enough to do the trick without the ring. This all suggests that Toth Amon knows about the Keystone and what it was meant to do, and was attempting to sabotage the effort to recreate it. That fear wouldn't necessarily be warranted if it was one single hapless exile escaping the region, but if the Keystone could free everyone, then every plan he had regarding the Exiled Lands was at risk. Also, there is a question to be asked about the process used to make the Keystone. The Archivist doesn't really say or imply that the Keystone is a jury-rigged piece of kitbashed magic, but that the process used to make it was established long ago. That possibly could have happened back in the day when the bracelets were communication devices and not slave bonds. If that's true, then how is it one-use only? And, even more critically, how can it destroy the artifacts used to create it? If it can only be made and used once, then...it was meant to only ever free one single person? All this is just because I got the feeling from the game and the lore snippets I found around the region that the Keystone meant a bit more than a single-use irreplaceable ticket out of the Exiled Lands.

@Eradicati0nn Жыл бұрын
I don't think so? I'm not 100% certain without delving into it a little more, but I believe the sandstorm would continue as long as Petruso lives, which would be effectively forever. It's a separate spell, that keeps going on an on. It kind of already got stopped by Petruso binding the elemental entity within himself. It starts in the deep desert and stops at the Petruso's temple, then loops back again.

Do we have any actual evidence that the Keystone IS a one use item? Cuz I don't see how that would make any sense given that it's made from the things that built both the curse wall and bracelets at the same time. How would such items be more powerful than the artifacts used to create them? The curse wall and bracelets both have maintained a constant level of magic over the course of several centuries, so why would the energy of the keystone be expended completely in a single go? It doesn't make sense unless the keystone itself were to destroy the curse wall and the ALL bracelets at once. Surely ONE measly bracelet isn't so powerful that the keystone forged from the combined magics of dozens of outer gods completely exhausts itself to break it. I mean, ffs just look at the path into the north. It USED to be cut off by more curse wall with completely different colored bracelets and they were somehow destroyed without the power of the keystone. Because only the green and gold ones still exist. The jungle was the same way, cut off by the curse wall until they too were also destroyed without that power. From what I can tell, there were 3 curse walls in total with either 2 or 3 sets of bracelets with different colors corresponding to the wall you are trapped in. The main, green curse wall which encompasses the entirety of the exiled lands and traps all bracelet wearers within, northern border wall which extends accross the northern border from west to east, the jungle wall which runs from the eastern joint where the northern wall meets the main wall, to the south eastern portion of the jungle zone, meeting the main curse wall either in the ocean, or in the desert. The dividing walls were all destroyed somehow, along with the bracelets that came with them, and all was done without the keystone. If it were so hard to do without an item as powerful as the keystone, I can't imagine even the events of the war of the giant kings leading to the destruction of those walls and bracelets. So yeah, I don't see how the keystone could logically be a single use item when you just created a super artifact with the help of a demon of the outer dark. But also, why would thoth amon want so badly to get those things if, at best, their combined power could only allow a single exile to go free?
@Perji Жыл бұрын
The staff doesn't tell you about the artifacts, it just sends you to the Archivist. It's the Archivist that gives you the list of items you need to collect, and warns you that it is impossible to obtain the Serpent Ring of Set, which may make the keystone unusable. Is it possible that anyone besides the exile would reach the Archivist? Highly likely. Would he just help anyone that comes to him? Quite possibly. He just gives you this information free of charge, would make sense he would just give it to anyone else as well. There is also speech from Arcos the Wanderer at the Sentinels, who tells you about people wearing bracelets but with gems of amber orange instead of green somewhere in the North. Not exactly sure where that is supposed to lead.
@Eradicati0nn Жыл бұрын
It is possible that others would find The Archivist, though the Awakened Staff is what spurs that on firstly, though indirectly. I also think that falls into a matter of circumstance again, where most characters don't really have much reason to head to The Archives in their own story, maybe aside from the Relic Hunters. A few people have mentioned the amber bracelets. I think that's likely a thread that doesn't lead anywhere, but I'm looking into it to see where it may lead

@@spaceranger7683 The amber-gemmed bracelets mention is a relic from time where the North was inaccessible. I know this is completely unrelated to the topic of this video, but I’ll say it anyway. I’d really love to get a lore video discussing Acheron and Stygia’s relationship. When I watched one of your videos, I found out that Acheron was an evil, dark, daughter kingdom to Stygia, which I perceived as Acheron basically being a “mini-empire” within Stygia, meaning that Stygia was assumably established and grew to great power way before Acheron was founded. Although, when I watch grim dark half off’s video, he states that Acheron is a dark, ancient, sorcerous kingdom that is one of the oldest in hyboria, older than Stygia. If that was so, how did it become a daughter kingdom, i.e. inferior, to Stygia, given that Acheron was established long before Stygia? Maybe I’m just mis-interpreting the meaning of the word “daughter kingdom”. Again, this is very unrelated to this video, but I do want to say what I think would be an interesting lore video. To all of you in the comments section, tell me what you think of this video idea, or maybe you could educate me yourselves on Acheron and Stygia’s relationship?

Nor sure about the Warmaker, but my impression is that he's the least learned of the Triumvirate in the arts of sorcery. Arcos the Wanderer mentioned someone cutting of his hand to remove the bracelet, and the issue there was a lack of medical care afterwards, which caused him to bleed out. Bigger plot hole: if people are being sent to the Exiled Lands for the purpose of dredging up artifacts for Thoth-Amon and his servants to then come take from them, they why does everyone start out crucified in middle of an uninhabited desert? Seems like an awful long journey to just kill someone. Or a big waste of potential manpower if many of those people never make it off of their crosses.
@Eradicati0nn Жыл бұрын
I think that's pretty easy to work out. Thoth markets TEL as a prison to foreign rulers, which is kinda what it is. Exiles hunting for relics is his ulterior motive. That, or it's just the optics for crucifying prisoners for whomever drops them off in The Exiled Lands

How do we know these are 1 time use items? This would negate the whole respawn system of the game. You kill mobs, npc's or even bosses and they respawn. There are loads of people in TEL. It seems to me it makes more sense that the puzzle would be able to be solved more than once. It probably is far more rare that others don't do as much adventuring and searching so only those small few who pass all the trials and finish the puzzle get to leave. We find out about the keystone and bracelet through dialog, lore and an interaction with the archivist. Out of all the humans roaming TEL you mean we are the ONLY ones that ever come across him? We are called exile but so is the majority of the population here. If it is a one time thing then it would prove that TEL are more a purgatory type of place and all the npc's are not actual real people but copies of them. How did Conan end up here and with no bracelet on? Toth has been able to come here, steal the ring and bracelets and travel back to the king to make a deal? How was he not trapped? It also makes all of the extremely powerful artifacts we find seem like anything but. The ring of Set is a one time use item? We never even get this item since Toth took off with it. Speaking of Toth, if the artifacts and relics are one time appearing and use then Toth would have stripped the land with his purges quite some time ago. There would be nothing left of value and the purges would no longer exist. Also, if the items only ever appear once so many of them would nave been permanently lost over time being buried in rubble, lost in quakes, destroyed by lava, etc. The Witch Queen mask is used by Razma before we even enter TEL meaning it would've been used up and useless to us. How do we get the keystone to work when we never get the serpent ring back? I feel the fact that when you do put the pieces together and you end up back at the cc screen seems like more proof that it really is some type of purgatory and after all that work we end back at the same spot we started like a barbaric version of Groundhog Day. I feel there quite a few holes in the game lore. Maybe it's from different staff members and writers coming on quite some time after original content and not doing enough research. Maybe it's due to Funcom allowing more variety and loose interpretations of the og story. ......... ?????? We will probably never know.

I would have a suggestion for the next topic - immortality of those trapped in The Exiled Lands and Isle of Siptah. While mostly gameplay mechanics, lore description say that anyone in The Exiled Lands (and Isle of Siptah apparently as well) that dies here awakens at the place that they last slept. I also heard opinions that it is supposed to do something with dreaming, that Exiled Lands are in fact different plane of existence, and Isle of Siptah is so corrupted by power of Outer Dark, that you basically "dream within dream", therefore can never trully die there.

After you craft the keystone, it goes into your inventory. If you select it and use it, then you are asked if that's what you really want to do. If you say no, it stays in your inventory. If you say yes, you get a short cinematic of your character walking out of the exiled lands past the ghostwall and the game ends.

you fucked up; its not the staff that teaches you what you need to assemble the keystone, its the architect. the staff only tells you that you need to go to the architect. after that the thing just repeats that message.
