Desperate for sleep, I went to bed at 9 last night. Saw I missed a goodnight text from my Ma. It had a link to some AGT idiot on KZbin. That, in turn, had a suggestion for some guy I'd never heard of (Kiff) making a song out of a cat's meow (a different cat). Next thing I know, it's 1am. Now, I am hurting for sleep even worse than yesterday. I'll likely not remember this sleep debt 5 years from now, but I'll remember these videos when I've succumbed to dementia. So... fair trade.

I like how there's some acknowledgement in the lyrics here that this is not a happy, consenting cat doing our vocals from some time in the weird youtube past, even though it's out there now and we may as well get some love out of it. There's so much gentleness involved here, though. I keep on replaying it. I love how expressive cat sounds are. Really, if their happy you might get a purr, but they're pretty silent. At the same time, the full vocal range of cats, when they use it, is always endlessly interesting to hear and actually pretty mind-blowing for the long standoffs of cat-fight caterwauling or intimidated growl-meowing like this. I love this work.
