I loved it. That fight scene is probably the best in home fight since Barry S2. It’s one of the most precise films I’ve ever seen.

The protagonist is the mental equivalent of a puddle. Every effort to explore his shallow inner speech and mentality just seems laughably devoid of substance. It's like using binoculars to look at a wall from 2 meters away. This being a self roast only means: the director shows you what a good trash maker he is, by putting so much effort in exploring small details of a pile of trash.

I think you're spot-on about the film being meta, and the killer being an avatar of Fincher. The thing is, I felt it was more likely about the debacle with Sony and The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, and ultimately the executives at Sony turning on him and the relationship between them souring for good. The bit of dialogue with Tilda Swinton's character seemed to be about Fincher taking the decision to leave Sony despite them trying to get him to stay, him not wanting to go "hunt" anymore, because if he misses he'd get, well, you know... (BTW, that word is a favourite of his in interviews when he talks about studio interference). Hell, Dolores even looked a bit like Amy Pascal... EDIT : typos

I read the Sony hack emails when it happened. The fact someone like Amy Pascal had that much power at the time is hilarious looking back at it now. The same person who said "movies haven't had any powerful female characters". Like GWTDT, Hollyweird probably has the IP to The Killer now and will make a sequel without Fincher.

The Killer isn't his best film but it's probably my favourite.

Anyone that says the first 20 minutes is boring, the killer literally says "if you can't endure boredom, this work(film) isn't for you". That makes sense on a meta angle for actors. The expression "hurry up and wait" is true in that first scene. An actor is waiting for the director but the killer is waiting for his target.

I thought it was great, but the start was really boring - 4.5/5
