I like this comparison. The Amazon site criticisms of the yellow tinge and gainy text aren't such a big deal in focii on the ability to read, to highlight, and just enough color to more than appreciate the difference without color. Plus, the Colorsoft is pretty fast. The Colorsoft is back on my wish list!

I don't think the colour soft is worth it. Especially given the yellow mark or line, or whatever it is. I think it's better to stay with the ordinary paperwhite. People say it's for the covers, and comics, etc, but you only see the cover once if you are starting a book. Then it's mostly ordinary text after that. I think the colour soft is overpriced.

100%. It’s a perwhite signature edition plus color. So it’s essentially 100$ more for the color tech.

@@ursulaoelofse4731 I had the Oasis and was excited for color. I just set my color soft up and it’s fantastic. I think the color and speed (over gen 11 PW SE) is great. I’d keep it, but the yellow band won’t work for me. I had the Kobo Libra Colour, but aside from the UI it needs revamping. I may wait for the Color soft version 2 with the kinks worked out, but will definitely be getting it or a replacement for this yellow band one.

@@daniboi79I have two of the Oasis models (one with the warm setting and one without). Although I don’t read graphic novels, manga, etc., I was also looking forward to the Colorsoft because it was supposed to be quicker, have better contrast, etc. I also would love to see the covers of my 2,000+ books in color. The Colorsoft is definitely an advance but the complaints about the paleness of the color and the unevenness of the screen lighting have convinced me to wait until a second or third generation. In the meantime, I’ll stick to the Paperwhite Signature (12 edition) for the increased speed and contrast andI will run my Oasis models into the ground since the batteries cannot be replaced and because of the page turn buttons and the autorotation.

@daniboi79 I've seen a lot of reviews with people talking about the yellow band or mark. I don't think that's good. Maybe they all come like that, I don't know, but I think it's better to stay with the ordinary paperwhite for now. Until they can sort it out, or give better ones.

The one reason I probably won’t buy it is, I enjoy reading with zero front light (like during daytime etc) and apparently the contrast/clarity difference is most pronounced when there is no light being used. Then battery life, also something I enjoy on regular paper white.. And most of my books don’t have images anyway.. Would like to see a comparison without front light being turned on. Edit: Despite my concern, I am still constantly tempted by it.. So I guess it just depends on the severity of the “no-light” black-and-white quality difference..

I’d say wait until Black Friday and see if the colorsoft is lower in price at all or is bundled with a case or Amazon gift card. Right now, this product is not worth the full price.

You won't be able to use the color with no front light. Even outdoors, the screen is dark.
@BrenR2 ай бұрын
@@VidMashUp yeah that’s a deal breaker. I enjoy the paper feel with no front light, as well as the extended battery life when not using light. Maybe the next generation or the one after that will fix this..

I have both. The colorsoft is brighter and more white to me?

The LEDs are seemingly tuned per batch with Kindles... for whatever reason. You likely got a PW with off-yellow tuned LEDs and a Colorsoft that's closer to LEDs as intended.

i just got the new paper white and hated the green tint and lack of brightness (it apparently had). didn't know the color soft fixed that im prob gna get that instead
@VidMashUp2 ай бұрын
I'm not a big fan of the green tint. I'm trying to get used to it. They insist it's better for your eyes, but I prefer a cooler tone.
@GBM6988Ай бұрын
I'm seeing complaints on reddit about the yellow tint on the PW as well but when I check the internet and youtube I don't see anyone talking about it. As a matter of fact I can't find anything about the PW having these so called "yellow stains" Does anyone have any issues with their PW?
@mere24601Ай бұрын
I think the new pw screen issues are not as common as the colorsoft. The pw screen issues I’ve seen have to do with the warmth of the entire screen. There’s more comparison photos on Reddit of people comparing multiple pw 12th gen screens at the same brightness and warmth. I’ve read these issues are both software and hardware (I guess these new screens are glued on rather than screwed on).
@daniboi792 ай бұрын
Great comparison. Eager to see battery life. Also do you notice any yellowing at the base of the screen like so many others?
@mere246012 ай бұрын
Yup. It’s not so much a line but more like a small blotch of faded yellow at the center of the bottom of the screen. I can see it most at full brightness.

@@mere24601 do you see the yellowing on both the kindles?

@ A lot of people are returning them for replacement. I agree for an almost $300 e reader, you shouldn’t have issues with internet or screen discoloration. That’s more than some big TV’s.

Agree completely. I’m already contacting Amazon support for a replacement.

@@mere24601 I also own one. Sadly it appears all Colorsofts have this issue, and even the latest Paperwhites. It just depends on a person's sensitivity, plus how the device's lighting is set, PLUS one's room lighting, as to how much it will be noticible. They are planning a software fix, which will hopefully minimize the problem.
