King and Queen Joined by Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh at Garden Party

The King and Queen hosted a garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. The celebration is part of a number of Royal engagements carried out by Their Majesties to mark the city’s 900th anniversary. Report by Louise Kennedy.

The Duke of Edinburgh is the image of his grandfather, King George V1. I was astonished at the likeness. I am so old at 86 , to have seen King George close up on a number of occasions including when, during WW2 Their Majesties visited the bomb hit area of London where I lived. I am so glad that the Duke, his grandson is receiving the recognition he deserves along with his lovely wife, the Duchess.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

@@deb4405 I do indeed. Some not so happy like air raids and bombs ( I was 7 when WW2 ended) but most joyful memories. Like Their Majesties coming to Bethnal Green,my birthplace, in the late 1940s , possibly 1948 in an open top car . They were visiting many parts of London and the country as a whole to mark their Silver Wedding anniversary. Just one of the less well known events I have been lucky enough to witness.

I have been so sick lately in & out of The Hospital & I can't do much out, but I definitely do my part to help the homeless & people who are not homeless. I will be cooking & baking just for them in my hometown. If I was a Queen & ruling over a country, the whole world would see a Queen who will dress like a regular person often & go out & do my part & work hard & sit & visit & make sure all the homeless have a roof over their heads, food, clothes, jobs. I'd also help anyone in need, it hurts my soul when someone doesn't have what I have. Nowadays people don't think of others anymore, because all of the money they have & they feel they are living the good life, but all that money won't get us in The Kingdom Of Heaven. I know, I know, this is a dumb question (which I kinda might have a feeling I know part of the answer)...but how does one get invited to a royal garden party? I've seen videos where ppl fuss and fuss over what they're going to wear, etc. (which obviously I would do too! Lol it's not everyday you get invited to one of these parties)! His Majesty the King looks very well considering his ongoing cancer treatment, which gives me great hope that everything is working okay so far. Hopefully it didn't rain at the party! 😊

You have to be quite well involved in charities or the public sector and then you have to be nominated, usually by the Lord Lieutenant in each county, the military services or the local government. It's a thank you for all the work people have done.

As has been intimated an invitation is in many respects a thank you . I attended a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on 21 July 1999. I was retiring at the end of a long career in the Civil Service during which I was ,simply by virtue of my Department, in a position to advise and assist a particular section of society. I still have the beautiful invitation card which says " The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by Her Majesty to invite..........". then my name was given in full . It was a most memorable day.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧
