The King does seem to prefer that diamond jubilee State Coach. He uses it quite often. Not only is it the newest in the livery, I also read that it has both heat and air conditioning. Although I wonder how they get both of those to work without a motor!

Yes, I think you missed something 😉 It's because he would then have been higher in rank than she was - which couldn't be allowed, as she was the monarch. It was the same with Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert. The wife of a reigning male monarch is the queen, but it doesn't work the other way round.
