Quick correction, Mature an Vice are not resurrected, but are Physical spirits sent by Orochi to deal with threats to his life just like in XIII. For now he's back at square one, trapped again in a seal just like the first saga, but who knows what tricks he has up his sleeve.

Ash slowly but surely became my favorite character in KOF. I started with 2002 went back to play 97 - then I played the last saga. When I played XI Shingo was easily my favorite, but Ash had a certain ugliness about him that made him cool. This later turned into a lack of desire to be a cool lead character - which was awesome. I mean he sacrificed edginess to become - That! His design in XII and XII made him look kind of trappy, but somehow this made his character complete. It sounds wierd but it's hard for me to explain.

The storyline is impressive but it will be better if SNK adopt Blazblue and Guilty Gear's way of telling the story instead of putting endings of each team of "what if' having the victory title as this might confuse which team ending is considered "canon", I meant for the console versions. It might not be an issue for some fans to know which ending is "canon". Also considering that Shun'ei is the current protagonist of the latest arc, he should have more of a story focus, though other characters need to have important equal roles and parts to play in terms of story. This will be a good change in pace, but team endings should still be implemented as closures in their parts.

I get the idea we'll be seeing significant characters past further from Verse's remains. Scattered then their power dispersed in defeat to be collected into a greater strife to come. Incidentally Xana's wild ravings relate to the concept a bit. I think he only lives now too see it's glory. It's a bug from earlier games where Leona would salute Chang before the match starts, but not Ralf. Probably something where Ralf and Chang's code was swapped or just mistyped. In KOF XIV it's basically SNK leaning into the meme, and it's even brought up in KOF All Stars' Valentine event.

Right now we know that Ash, Orochi, and Leona's biological dad (Gaechi or something like that) are on that list. So that leaves 33 more resurrected characters that were either dead or missing.
