This is a great sequel to 18 Wheeler that certainly goes all out! The fact that this game has a story, a wider cast of colourful characters and more over the top gameplay mechanics absolutely shows the imagination and fun that the developers at SEGA had to surpass the original. What's funny is that the PS2 port of Route 66 even goes the extra mile of including an even sillier plot and wider cast of characters and villians. You just don't get games like this anymore.

If this arcade port returns it would include both the story mode like on the PS2 and the arcade mode like this as well as new challenge on Route 66 challenge like score attack and convoy combo challenge.

the alternate route to Santa Montica was wild! lookin like a level straight out of San Francisco Rush there (but I suppose being able to ramp a car off the buildings of a hilly city is a common fantasy!)

Don't know why but I remember this games having solid crisp graphics, this looks horrible from what I remember, maybe it's because I am spoilt with todays graphics or the emulator does not give it the true arcade look, who knows, loved playing this in the arcade in my youth lol

Played this arcade cabinet yesterday, but quickly couldn't get further because I couldn't possibly figure out how to use the nitro's. Pushed every button I found, but no luck (or something was broken). Any hints?

You had to grab the CB radio and yell "Nitro!". Important note: it had be pronounced in proper English; in Mexico, people tended to yell "Neetroh!" instead, and the game didn't recognize that.

This game has awful AI(rubber banding ), on the normal difficulty you stand no chance to even keep with the rival and last boss was 20+ tries to do task. Not even short cuts will help.
