The knockers don't get it. This is humanity. It is spectacle. We are the puppetmasters. They perform for us. Its civilized and disciplined and traditional. This is humanity at its best. Its a performance of a particular tradition unique to the U.K. Nothing wrong with that. They are setting out a plan - its important stuff. Take pride in it -its wonderful.

Why is it hilarious? The King's speech is written by the government to set out the legislative programme of the new parliamentary session, it's important regardless of your opinions about the monarchy. What a bizarre thing to say.

I may be ignorant here, but am I correct in saying that the House of Commons can dictate to the House of Lords, in forcing aLords member to resign at the age of 80, be that proper or not…., can Starmer make that decision, and must the Lords agree to it ???

I think is British tradition is wonderful. It demonstrates the continuum of the past, present, and future. This is one way to recognized that past and its affect the present and the coming future. But tradition is based on a habit. A habit that is based on the distant past. A past where elites use their army and impose their authority on everyone. The inherited peerage of the House of Lords and the Royal Family is a vestige of tradition, of habit, and of the distant feudal past.

All the lords and ladies are given new ermine fur capes every so often and this year, for the first time, the procurers were hunting for lookalike material which they found on Facebook Marketplace for next to nothing. They are saving tax-payers' money that way. As for the wigs, they were also bought at an antiques auction.
