This non-Chinese ethnic minority has the particularity of being based on a matriarchal society in which marriage does not exist.
A Mosuo man and woman comment throughout the film on "transitional marriage", a practice which allows lovers to love each other when and how they want, without the constraint of living together. Thus, each of them spends their life with their own family.
