The KingsGuard Coup D'etat | House Of The Dragon History & Lore (Regency Of King Aegon iii)

The Fall Of The Bank Of House Rogaur did much more than just cause the family's fall from power, but set in motion a chain of events within the walls of the Red Keep that would forever change the history of house targaryen and bring in to question the position of the Kingsguard after there Coup D'etat against the hand of the king.

The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on George R R Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series. Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen was trapped on Dragonstone by her brother King Aegon ii with no way to escape her fate. What was to come was the final showdown between the two main players of the dance of the dragons and bring the war into its final phase. The House of the dragon was crumbling and the events that was about to follow would only cause more damage to both sides of the war.

They really should have known the prince wasn't being hyperbolic or making empty threats as soon as the king appeared by his side and also when the king allowed him to make the threat, drive the ax into the bridge, and only then did his older brother pull the prince inside to safely and send out the Shadow.

The depth GRRM gives to his "histories" is so substantial, you'd think it sprang from multiple sources. As though it were drawing upon the equivalents of Venerable Bede, Geoffrey of Monmouth, etc, as well as folk tales and the like.

That's exactly the masterfully enacted, thorough point of his lore. He has various maesters of varying bias at all points in his history. Be it a Bede-like objectivist or a Pliny-like imperialist, the history of ASOIAF is recorded like real history is recorded - with inscrutable flair and observable human error.

@@dextersynesterformerlysorb5334 Tolkien released The Hobbit in the late 1930's. The Ring Trilogy came in the 1950's. He continued writing for the next 20 years, but it was his son who would be his literary executor (supposedly, no more than 2-3 months before his death he was writing more about Galadriel). He obsessed on the Elven languages (in appendices to the books). GRRM is in his 70's and seems to be enjoying exploring all parts of this realm he has created. I hope he finishes ASOIAF, but he might not. It may end up a grand ruin like Harrenhall. An interesting aside: supposedly told Paddy Considine that he liked his King Viserys better than his own. Which will doubtless lead to further refinements of characters and even changes in POVs.

If Cregan stark remained as hand things will be different. After Corlys and Tyland Lannister no one was faithful. No surprise that Aegon dismissed all his small council members after an year.

I thought he was pretty postive about the mandarly hand. But it was about princeable that a king needs to choice his own hand. That was the big misstake viserys the first made. Keeping otto instead of making somone else hand when he became king.

@@Felzorful I don't necessarily agree. Viserys I himself wasn't exactly the best King, so his "judgement" isn't something I look at as the best either way. And Otto had served the Realm well for Jaehaerys, in the Old King's final years. It was Viserys fault for what transpired leading to the Dance, not Otto's. Had he listened to Otto, or just listened to history in general, Aegon II would've been named Heir well before the Dance ever had rhe chance to happen.

The only reason he got onto the council was because Otto was aware that he was an incredible capable man despite being viewed as an idiot by everyone else. Visery would also lose Beesbeary if he was just getting rid of the old council. Tyland lannister another capable man would be overlooked by others. Also if Rhaenyra is anything to go by a bunch of incompetene man would be in position of power
