Lead guitarist (Mitch Mitchell) just died 6 days ago. The man you see lip syncing is Lynn Easton, who is not the actual vocalist on the recording. The vocalist is Jack Ely, who quit the band when he was demoted to playing drums. Jack sued the group and Lynn was no longer allowed to lip sync his vocals. This video was either before that settlement or Lynn was breaking the terms of the lawsuit settlement.

Louie Louie by the Kingsmen (a band from Portland, Oregon that played often in Seattle and Tacoma, especially at the Spanish Castle) was released in 1963. I was 14 that year, living in the Seattle area, and everybody was in a "garage band". My brother was a lead guitar player, and after this recording (which was a one-take live record) came out, all the Pacific Northwest Bands performed a version of Louie Louie. It's fruitless to ask what they were singing, btw. They'll never tell and nobody else did either. It was the golden era of rock n roll. Of note, this performance was after the Beatles had come to the US. Everybody was getting Beatle haircuts and the drummers were mimicking Ringo.

I know the lyrics and what the song is about, from Lyn himself..Louie is a bar tender.The song is about a sailor. Who needs to leave. He has to sail across the ocean to see his girl.She has a rose in her hair,I will smell it if I can get there.He can't get away, Louie keeps throwing him shots. Everytime he tries to leave...
