It's not Christmas until l hear the kinks father Christmas!!!

This was broadcast on FM radio at Christmas 1978, introduced I believe by Alan Freeman. I taped it on to a cassette and then about ten years ago, copied the cassette tape onto a CD . Still one of my most favourite shows ever and this tune is a belter.

Arguably, the best Christmas song by a rock band!

This song definitely has a punk edge to it and it's a Christmas song too. Awesome song

+jamaral81 Not surprising, as The Kinks were to fathers of the British punk scene. Harsh guitars and songs that attacked the status quo.

@stevem605 Once upon the time every Stones concert was different/unique... nowadays (when they tour) it's like someone has put on a prerecorded tape (does anyone still record something on a tape these days?) through the speakers.

@alabhaois I'm in my early 30s and am getting more and more into classic rock. My Dad always says that The Who were the precursors to punk rock and The Kinks were the forerunners of New Wave.

in the Uk they parrot that the Kinks were the first 'Heavy Rock' band.. not too sure myself. A great band nonetheless

Have you ever listened to You Really got Me, All Day and All of the Night and I Need You and put those in context of what was happening in 1964? She Loves You, I'm Heny the VIII, etc. They were the Metallica of 1964/1965.@@scottheatherley
