I'm 68 and have been playing guitar since 1966 and it's so great to see all you youngsters playing songs that were part of our lives since we were playing them way back then. I love this song it reminds me of when I was your age. If only you could know what it was like in the 1960s. We were free so free but our mistake was taking our freedom for granted. Don't make the same mistakes that we made. Oh yeah I almost forgot, I live in Waterloo and love this song.

I love this song, discovered it decades after it was recorded (love the old stuff!) - searched high and low for the "right" way to play the song, the bridge, etc. - boom, you hit it on the head, this is a perfect lesson! Sorry to say, so many other guys post videos that are incorrect or otherwise so oversimplified - this is a lesson for someone who knows how to play, thanks mate - great job!

Hi Paul! Thanks so much for your words it really means a lot! I was hoping to make a practical video and I actually did this tutorial as part of a university project so it's really reassuring to hear you got on with it, it's such a fantastic song, I was a bit worried I didn't mention the fret numbers enough in this video! I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply to this, hopefully you can forgive me haha!

Bullshit. It’s wrong. Watch him live. He uses double stops at the 9th fret then goes to the b at the second fret.

This is the most comprehensive tutorial on KZbin! Fantastic, I love this song and have watched several tuts on it,but this is THE one to watch! As a previous comment said "fret numbers" would be easier,but only a minor grump. Well done Anthony. Thank you

+bouldgin Thank you for your kind words! It really is a great record isn't it? There's something about the pacing, the melody, phrasing and lyrics which fit perfectly, definitely has to be in my top 5 for sure! ..Anyway I'm really happy to hear you got some joy out of the video i'll be striving to add those fret numbers in to my future videos haha! All the best :)

i really like this tutorial - particularly how you broke the song down into parts and then the riffs into parts as well and then played everything at least twice. the only thing i'd say (and this is personal) is it'd help if you also said (or wrote somewhere) the fret numbers. i'm much slower working out where notes are on the guitar and i have to watch like five times to piece together which notes/frets i should play. but i guess that's what i get for not practising written music as much as i probably should. wonderful video regardless!
@AnthonyFernsGuitarTutorials9 жыл бұрын
cuteypetz thank you great comment! yeah this was an interesting song to teach where there's an almost constant counter melody happening on the lead guitar, i think 'clarity' is the key word that i've got in mind when i'm making these lessons/breaking down the individual parts, it is something i'm always striving for! will definitely take on board reiterating the fret numbers, and also maybe making reference to the dots on the fret board, hadn't properly appreciated it wasn't so user friendly for some, the notes can be a pain to get your head around sometimes haha ..All the best :)
@nykfury34015 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyFernsGuitarTutorials i just wrote down the fret numbers since you can see them well enough. it probably wouldn't hurt if i did know the notes for each as you do. eventually.... i'd like to see you do some more 60's pop songs if you would care to!
@WibblyWobblyBob4 жыл бұрын
Can I suggest one change. In any major, or minor key you only have one of each note letter. If you wrote on a sheet of music the run down it would be easy to read using the correct note names from the key of E major( B A# G# F# E D# C#) i.e. one note per letter, and confusing using mixed note names B A Ab F# E Eb C#. Rule one of theory: don’t mix flats and sharps. Sorry for the lecture, great lesson otherwise.

Very thorough. Nice phrasing. Great reinforcement of the structure, etc. My only note would be, I'd like to hear a bit more about chord analysis, passing tones between chords, more detailed naming of chords in certain sections... Overall though I thank you for and commend you on an excellent lesson! You gave me some good grounding on the rhythm and you have a lot to teach on those lead lines, that's for sure.

+r “chank” bro I think you might be right, it's quite difficult to tell on the record ..But to be honest playing it as a major chord over a dominant 7 is harmonically incidental to the record so I wouldn't worry about it too much :)

Anthony, how did you set up the tone for lead? Is it heavily compressed?
@AnthonyFernsGuitarTutorials8 жыл бұрын
+bungy007 It actually isn't compressed at all, I cant for the life of me remember what the EQ settings were either, but the tone is consistent throughout the video ..I also slightly enhanced the sound during the editing process and thats about as close to compression as I came!
@bungy0078 жыл бұрын
Cheers. Great sound. Any tips on how to come as close as you did? I've also got a humbucking guitar loaded with seymour duncan PAF '59s through a fender blues juniour NOS tweed. any ideas would realy help me out.
@AnthonyFernsGuitarTutorials8 жыл бұрын
+bungy007 So i've given this some thought and general rules for this song I’d select the middle pick up with humbuckers, wouldn't be too fussed on having the guitar too much one way or the other (neck/bridge) and dial in the bass around 10/11 o’clock and the treble around 2/3 o’clock, and add some presence. it’s interesting because the guitar, amp, and pickups all react too each other differently so we could have identical settings and it could potentially sound completely different, but try those settings and see what you think ..you might find that you have to experiment/tweek it a bit haha. I’ve also heard it said that the blues junior generally gets better the louder the volume ..so the voicings open up more when your playing with a band, so bare that in mind!
@bungy0078 жыл бұрын
