JMHO- the regular steel least expensive version 110 are pretty much as good as most knife users ever need. Most people today that buy knives have never learned to properly resharpen their knives with a plain old fashioned whetstone by hand, so they "need" a harder steel that doesn't need a frequent touch up. The trade off comes when you have to resharpen and a conventional whetstone is usually not adequate to restore the edge. Another JMHO- I would say that regular old fashioned Buck 110's have been used more for the role of a "survival" knife more than any purpose built "survival" knife was.
