This song is a German medieval crusader song called Palastinalied; it is about a Christian pilgrim who travels to the Holy Land; thousand of miles away from his home; this song shows his emotions; his heartache to see his beloved land occupied by enemy; his love for the holy land and his Faith;

The music heard in this video is everything but medieval. Here are real medieval répertoires, you will consider that they have nothing in common (if we are correctly performing them by the way but that's another question). Since the XIXth century a lot of clichés and wrong depictions of Middle ages have been spread. What you like in this video is a perfect depiction of *inspired* medieval music from XXIth century. Just wanted to let you know that you may ultimately appreciate more the current century than the past ones. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYPCYaKeZ66LrMU kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5ioh2doh7CZbKc

Wol im dort, der hie vergalt! ENGLISH TRANSLATION Now my life has gained its meaning since these sinful eyes behold the sacred land with meadows greening whose renown is often told. This was granted me from God: to see the land, the holy sod, which in human form He trod. Splendid lands of wealth and power, I’ve seen many, far and near, yet of all are you the flower. What a wonder happened here! That a maid a child should bear, Lord of all the angels fair, was not this a wonder rare? Here was He baptized, the Holy, that all people might be pure. Here He died, betrayed and lowly, that our bonds should not endure. Else our fate had been severe. Hail, O cross, thorns and spear! Heathens, woe! Your rage is clear. Out of pity for us, He suffered here the cruel parting. Out of pity for us He, the Almighty, allowed cursing. For us to escape misery, it is an immeasurable prodigy, more than any other prodigy. Then to hell the Son descended from the grave in which He lay, by the Father still attended, and the Spirit whom none may give a name: in one are three, an arrowshaft in unity. This did Abraham once see. When He there defeated Satan, ne’ er has kaiser battled so, He returned, our ways to straighten. Then the Jews had fear and woe:39 watch and stone were both in vain, He appeared in life again, whom their hands had struck and slain.

Listening to this a whole world was born in my imagination, in it, a knight clad in armor and with an arrow sticking out of his shoulder climbs a mountain, it is snowing a lot and as he climbs it it gets harder as the snow and strong winds get more intense, but he keeps climbing, he wants nothing more than to reach the peak and see the sunset before he succumbs to his wounds. As he climbs he reminisces about his life since he was a child, and all his life played before him like a movie and he didn't know if he's hallucinating or if his God was with him but he sees his friends, his family, his enemies, and his wife whom he left behind, all of whom encouraged him to keep climbing and to not give up... After a while and much struggle, just before he could not walk anymore he finally reached the peak of the mountain, and it was beautiful, below he saw the magnificent clouds covering the land and in the horizon the incandescent sun was casting its last rays before nightfall. It was beautiful. The knight smiles and before he closes his eyes, he says: "How silly, such vast and unknown world full of wonders and we were slaughtering each other over something insignificant, I can't even remember why we were fighting". And then the knight was no more

Yes, the bitterness of the cold wind whistling thru your helmet as you journey onwards ,marching , crunching your way through the snow, and listening to the echo of your own breathing. You're weighted down by your cloak of fur. The smashing of armor ahead is your only guide through the blinding snow as to where you tread next. They were real men in those days. Fear was not an option... a bygone era.

While I cannot say this for every individual Templar, I actually have begun developing a bit of respect and admiration for the medieval Templars as an organization. Contrary to popular image, the Templars did not set out for the Holy Lands to pillage and murder Muslims and Jews , though there were plenty of other Crusaders who did. Their true purpose was to patrol the roads of the Holy Lands and protect Christian pilgrims from attack. If local Muslims were willing to leave those Pilgrims alone, it wasn’t uncommon for the Templars (at least if they understood their Order’s purpose; again, the honorability of individual Templars varied) to leave them alone in return.

"This was a day that the small kingdom had long awaited; the arrival of the legendary knight has come at last, while the tiny kingdom was at war with a large and very powerful empire whose ruler sought to brutally conquer and absorb the kingdom into his vast collection of territories. Now that the knight has arrived, there is a growing hope among the people that they will not only survive, but also retain their independence and way of life, for this was no ordinary knight. He has fought in more than a hundred battles and numerous wars, even leading armies to victory against overwhelming odds; legend even says that he singlehandedly defeated a dragon. His experience and knowledge of warfare and tactics and proficiency with almost all manner of weaponry are why he is feared in many lands, and why the desperate kingdom's ruler requested his help, for without it, all hope could be lost....."

On a cold, wintry day like any other, the sentry at the keep gates cried out for them to be opened. A lone knight had returned from war, forever changed. the last of his order. Gone was the easy smiling face, the mischievous glint in the eye, the man known for his booming laughter, and friendly demeanor. All that was left.. was the animal. an animal, clad in plate armor, wielding a claymore, and prepared to do whatever it took to survive. Within the castle, His eyes were dark. wild. flitting about the grand hall, searching the dim corners for.. something. the king took notice of this, and smiled a grim, pained smile. the face his knight wore, was the very same one he once bore, many years ago. upon the eve of the last crusade, before he ascended the throne, he was young. just like his young friend, his knight, he had gone to battle with the members of his order, The Order Of Stone. friends one and all. the fighting during those final, desperate days, had seen many orders lost, many cohorts destroyed. King Garit remembered well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the end, the last of the orders to fall, was his. Baromir, his right hand. a giant of a man, possessed of an affable spirit, and fiercely loyal. he preferred a large shield and a mace. Fendrel, his archer. master of the longbow, and talented scout. quiet, yet an unapologetic prankster. Auelina, an assassin. deathly silent, agile, and gifted spy. a lover of books, and often found with Fendrel. Ernald, his hospitallier. a baker and lover of stories, this one. friends with Herdantes, to no surprise. In battle, Should any one member become unable to continue fighting alone, Ernald would see to their wounds as best as he could, and accompany them until such time he was no longer needed. a trait that would come to save Garit's life, at the cost of his own. Herdantes, a knight penitent. serious as could be, but quite the storyteller in rare moments of calm. never far from Isolt, this one. lastly, but certainly not least, was Isolt. a former thief, and particularly fond of small beasts. Priestess. Hers was an unenviable task. she was to perform last rites for the dead and dying. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The final battle of the crusade would see them all dead, protecting Garit. He returned home, hailed as "a hero." but it rang hollow. he was alone. gone was Baromir, never to announce himself with booming laughter again. Fendrel, who would never raise anyone's spirits again with his pranks, nor enjoy quiet moments of peace with Auelina. Auelina, never again would she while away her free moments reading scriptures, or steal precious seconds with Fendrel. Ernald, who would never create wonderous feasts again, nor enjoy Herdantes' endless tales of home, of far off lands. Herdantes, no more stories would ever pass from him, nor would he terrorize Ernald in the kitchens again. Isolt, never to comfort those fading away, nor spend time with Herdantes again. they would never see home again. so he would honor them, and remember. until his dying days, he would remember the Order of Stone, and all those who gave of themselves to save him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Garit was jolted from his memories by his friend, the young knight Eddard. "Lord, what troubles you so?" he asked. he hesitated, unsure of what to tell him. resignedly, he spoke. "nothing so concerning as to warrant your worry, my friend. just an old man, remembering long ago places, and friends." the knight looked embarrassed, he had unwittingly disturbed his lord's remembrance of fallen companions-" Garit saw panic cross Eddard's face, and sought to calm it before it took full effect. "Peace, Eddard, peace. you didn't disturb me, if that was your concern. no, I should think you stopped me before I went too deep." Eddard shuffled in place for a moment, looking indecisive, and spoke. "If the lord wouldn't mind my saying so.. there's a saying I heard from my commander while on campaign, if you'll permit me to share it?" his interest piqued, Garit bade him to speak. Eddard breathed, and spoke. "revere the honored dead, remember their deeds. but do not neglect the living." he stopped, and waited. Garit was at a loss. It sounded familiar, almost as if- no. impossible. but the evidence had just been uttered right before him. Eddard had met Herdantes, at some point. Or at the very least, one of his sons. the question now, was which one? did he meet Herdantes, or his sons? this burning question in mind, Garit feigned ignorance, and asked Eddard where he'd heard that saying from. "From Jericho, Son of-" Garit cut him off, he knew who had sired Jericho. "Son of Herdantes, and Isolt. a knight penitent and a priestess. I knew them well. they'd left their son with a friend, before they went to war with me. Only I returned. Jericho followed in the footsteps of his father then.. no surprise there. Herdantes was proud of what he was, and what he did in the name of the people." Garit watched shock cross Eddard's face then. "the Penitent Warden and the Warrior Priestess? you knew them?" Now it was Garit's turn to be shocked. "In those days, they were known to me, simply as my friends. I had no idea they'd earnt titles. a fitting honor." Eddard said nothing, and nodded in return. Garit sighed. "Eddard, give an old man your attention for a moment." he stiffened, but obeyed Garit nonetheless. "I know you mourn the lost, my friend. I have been in your place, as have many within this hall, and many before them. mourn them, remember them, and honor their deaths, by living. you are home, my friend. there will be time for quiet remembrance, and sorrow later. for now... return to your quarters. remove your armor. recuperate. I suspect you'll have your own legend, soon enough. there are already hushed whispers of you, among my court. "The Warden Supremis." they say. a fitting title. and Eddard?" he looks at Garit. "live for the living, kill for the dead. go now my friend." Eddard said nothing, and retreated into the halls outside the grand hall, leaving King Garit to his own devices. "a fitting title, indeed..." he said faintly, before returning again to his thoughts, and memories of faces, long lost to the fog of time.

Reminds me of staying in a care home. I was almost past with broken back and head injury from battle. Crawling along a corridor as no food or visit. Hark a care person "can I have some water 💧 please "( I did not yet ask for food or medicine. Reply -"you will have to wait were putting up posters !". Me - "can you see what's on those posters "(remember the fallen !) "There's a fallen soldier behind asking for water 💧. Not shiny enough was I and not possible to use for thier glory /Ego. Remember the fallen but not at the expense of the living ! Fear not , I'm healed now and ready for battle AGAIN 🙏 💪. May I fall in battle less I wither in a place of "care"....arte etc marte
