So glad I found this video. I have this machine, came without instructions, manual, or punch cards, but now I feel like I can learn it on my own with your help. I have used a Brother standard gauge but it was electronic so no punch cards--your demonstrating how to use the punch cards was so helpful. Now, I'll have to try to find some or make some. Thank you!

I have an MK 7O but the carriage stopped working so I bought the HK160 for the carriage. Later I managed to get the broken carriage repaired. They are lovely machines and it is a shame that they are no longer made. I really like the jumper you are wearing. It is beautifully made.

I just got a hk160, with every piece of small accessory, manuals, punchcards, blank punchcards and all - for what amounts to £11. I took it apart to clean it, and one of the interesting things I found was, that the hk160 has all springs and latches to fold up, like yours, but no way to release them, when they are in the flat position. It seems the only difference between the two machines, is the little red release lever, and the box to pack it in. I thought that was an interesting little discovery.
@Thesweaterfactory2 күн бұрын
@@tedlich That is interesting. Surely it has some strengthening plate across the bottom to prevent sagging where the beds join? £11 is a great price! Cherish those blank cards, they are very hard to get hold of.
@tedlich2 күн бұрын
@thesweaterfactory it does. It has two metal plates fastened with screws. If you remove them, and two screws placed centrally on the machine, the springs release and the side pop out and can now be folded up. When reassembling, the sides have to be pushed back in, until they click in to place. Very satisfying. Now I kinda wish I had one like yours 😄 Anyway. I just happened to find it in my local second hand shop. I have never had a knitting machine before and am very excited to learn this new skill.

Love love love the video!! I am searching for empty punch cards for such a long time and I have never seen them being offered! How did you make your punchcards? did you laminate your punchcards? you print a blanc one first and then laminate it and just punch it with a regular punch card tool?
@Thesweaterfactory Жыл бұрын
Hi there, First of all, thank you for the kind words. Punchcards for the MK-70/HK-160 have not been available for decades now, you can make your own, however. You will need at least one original blank card and photocopy it, so it is the proper scale. Laminate the print out with the sticky back lamination (the heat type will be too rigid) cut the laminated punchcard to size and using a pin and a foam block, if you have one, (you could use blocking mats) this will allow the pin to go all the way through and also prevent you from poking yourself or damaging the surface you are working on. Mark your design out on the home made punchcard with a marker pen and then poke out the pin holes where your design is, there is no need to poke out every single pin hole but you can if you wish. Then you can use a regular punchcard punch and punch the design out. The punch won’t punch without the pin (guide) holes, which is why you need to poke them out, before punching. Don’t forget to punch out the leader holes that the card uses to advance and the card snap holes too. Just remember as you are punching through paper and not the original mylar, that the punchcards were made of, it will blunt your punchcard punch more quickly but you can sharpen it up again by punching out on some tin foil. It is a lot of work to go to but it is an option for getting an endless supply of 18 stitch punchcards, as long as you keep one original or make hundreds of copies of it. Another option is “Sunny Choi” online sells aftermarket MK-70/HK-160 blank cards but they do not have the guide holes, so you will, again, need a pin, to poke out the relevant ones but that will be a bit faster than creating the card from scratch, however, they are a little expensive. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I was just about to order a KR 6 but then I watched your video and saw that I would have to find the attachment piece. I'm wondering if I can rig up the KR 10 with this machine or if I should just get the KR 6 and figure out a way to prop it up behind the machine. I'm really jealous of that attachment piece but I think it would be almost impossible to find.
@Missster_Sharp10 ай бұрын
I have made my own attachment rail to mount my kr6 to the mk70, i used a piece of angled aluminium extrusion, and shaped it according to an image I found online of the proper bracket. Two metal screws to form the attachment points, and a cut down tripper from parts from another machine. I’m not sure how to share images in a KZbin comment but let me know if you would like to see how I made it :)

I've always found that 4ply gives such a loose knit with my HK160, even at T6 (I've lost the pattern booklets that I think recommended T7 or 8) - have you found this? All of the other patterns I've got are for standard gauge, and like a fool I can't find the pattern booklets that came with the HK160 which were written specifically for this machine....

It slides off. If it is seized, try spraying some silicone spray into the drums on the back, to free it. Don’t overly force it though, you may have to let it soak in a bit if it doesn’t move right away.
