There's an interview that was played prior to the broadcast of each episode (aired as two episodes) when it was originally broadcast on Radio 4. They discuss the music. This version of The Kraken Wakes was deliberated recorded in front of a studio audience and the music was composed especially as a method of telling the story rather than just as an audio drama. They also discuss some changes that were made, such as the location of Rose Cottage moved to Scotland rather than Cornwall. Personally, I prefer the 1998 audio drama rather than the 2016 version. Some of the script in the 2016 version sounds forced and deliberately trying to make a point (the bit about Afghanistan, the bit about the oceanographer not liking seafood and a few of Tamsin Grieg's lines - they don't sound natural and sound like a deliberate political statement). As an alternative way of telling a story with the use of music, I don't mind the idea (look at the BBCs radio adaptation of The Lord of the Rings). However, I personally didn't like the music in this 2016 version of The Kraken Wakes.

I love Wyndham but it sometimes he doesn't stand the test of time. This is a good reimagining. Like to think that musicians get a payday out of this sort of recording: don't begrudge them.🙂

Stop grousing about the music, folks. It's very appropriate music for the story. Good acting. The lady sounds like Emma Thompson. a sensational actress. It's a pleasure just listening to her rich, resonant voice, whoever she is. Somehow this kind of story tends to be boring after being used so many times, but this held my interest right through. Very well done! Thank you.

The musical interludes are unnecessary and the fright music is overpowering and suited to a hysterical horror. There's a better adaptation on yt from 1998 starring Jonathan cake which is 80% less Scottish

Yup the music felt rather mismatched, outdated... I was expecting the Thunderbirds and Thunderbirds theme tune at one point - otherwise it was quite a good bit of afternoon cosy listening

Utter rubbish and I stopped listening after 20 odd minutes. If this is the latest radio broadcasting stories from the BBC.. Close up shop, fire every one and get jobs at a plant nursery.. This was not good and using dramatic old school music to set ambiance didn't work. It was trite, hackneyed, sad and shallow writing. I expect better from establishment broadcasting but that seems impossible nowadays. The voice actors need to up their games as it sounded like they were looking for a pay packet nothing else.

Lack of imagination and intelligence does have this effect. Very thorough analysis of a 1 hour 41 minutes broadcast given you only listened to 20 minutes !!! 🤔🙄
