The fact that they wrote this song with just having the thought of writing a STRONG song is soooo fucking cool to me. And that JYP gave them artistic freedom to do so and release it. There is still a lack of promotion but just them letting the boys do what they want is pretty cool to me

when XDH dropped the teaser for this, I absolutely lost it, their dive into metal was so good... btw the Open Beta project has been a series of singles released each month (starting in roughly june I think??) that are dropped parallel to live concerts. it's been a period where XDH has been extremely experimental with their sound and exploring different genres of rock! each single has sounded very different, and I'd love to hear your take on how XDH has been trying on the various forms of rock :)

Yoon Dohyun has a verse and the hook and his voice honestly sounds like a mix of Jooyeon and Jungsus’ voices when he sings. I didn’t even realize he had a verse until I watched a color coded vid and some live performances. Perfection👌🏼

I hope they do more of this style but as you say it will depend on how it was received in Korea. Loved the behind video, they were so happy meeting their idol and I'm sure it was inspiring for them but best of all I think Yoon Do Hyun and his members loved it too. Their live performance must be seen.

they've been calling their single releases 'Open Beta' single this year, and each one is kind of an exploration of different sounds in rock and metal. Boy Comics, Save Me, Love and Fear, and now this one. I think thats the reason they call them Open Beta lol. In games an open beta is a pre-release version of the game that can be played by the public to help get it to a polished state and find issues. I think they called it this to tests sounds and see how their fans respond to each style. It's been very fun, and this one was INSANELY GOOD!!!!

Yoon Do Hyun said he’s making a metal album right now. Hopefully Xdinary Heroes will be featured in YB’s album as well. Yoon Do Hyun asked XH to feature when they were on stage together. They also have performed ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Mint Candy’ together. Have you checked ‘Boy Comics’ and ‘Save me’? These two songs are also from the Open Beta project.

In terms of music, we can see that they started out more pop rock-ish vibe.. mainly to introduce themselves to mainstream appeal. But as the time goes on, and they gain loyal fan base called VILLAINS, their music slowly and steadily becomes heavier especially with heavier distorted guitars, which for me I think helped shaped their identity and for me makes Xdinary Heroes unique and set apart to a lot of Kpop rock bands and Korean rock bands out there, who mostly prefer softer pop rock sound. open beta is part of a project (xperiment project) xdinary have been doing post releasing their 1st full album. Every month they released a single titled open beta 6.1-4 (6.1 boy comics, 6.2 love and fear, 6.3 save me, 6.4 instead) and in the few days running up to the single release they held concerts titled closed beta 6.1-4 where they played the single live for the first time prior to its actual release - hence 'closed beta' because it was only seen live by those at the venue and then upon actual release it was 'open beta' and open to the public. They also had leaflets at the concerts handed out to attendees with 'instructions' on closed beta testing encouraging them to film and post online and share with other people. The songs in xperiment project all kinda had a different vibe/feel/genre to them and open beta testing in games etc is like testing how something is received by people so i feel like this was a cool way for them to dabble with different styles and see how villains responded to each and wether it would be a genre they would like to expand more into later down the line. Also jooyeon's hair is a wig ! He was blonde underneath at the time there's actually a video of him on his bday wearing the wig (and a princess outfit) on live and he pulls it off his head and its really funny! Also xh are having a comeback on october 14th so more xdiz to look forward to coming soon!!

Yoon Do Hyun's live screams are even more powerful! My biggest desire with XDH is that they would learn harsh vocals themselves. It's not easy but there are so many amazing metalcore artists who do both and are actually pulling in a lot of new fans from outside the metal scene with that. I'd like to believe that could happen within korean/international kpop scene as well. Next I need screams from Dreamcatcher :D

Answering the first question, we had The TRAX from SM in the mid 2000s who did heavier rock/metal-ish songs. I think XH is the first kpop-mainstream band (not group, Dreamcatcher def does it all the time) to touch on metal in this decade. I told my friends "a JYP band doing metal???"
