Mike "Tyson" Amesbury's punches are different from John Prescott's reaction to an egg thrown at him years ago. Prescott reacted instinctively. Prescott didn't know it was "just" an egg. It might've been acid. Now consider Clubber Amesbury's actions. His alleged assailant had his hands in his pockets and glanced away. Mad Mike punched his victim, decked him and continued punching with several further blows. All of us can understand the "red mist" moment when the doom music cuts in, but fisticuffs of this duration are unjustified.

The Labour Party did not suspend him at all on the Saturday but when the Daily Mail published the CCTV, Mike Amesbury's story (and more importantly his statement to the Police) were shown to be false. It was only after that story broke that Starmer decided to suspend him- 30 hours after the event
