The Lad and PennysStuff react to The Return by Josh A (We waited 2 years for this)

Here's my review of the album: For context, I am a music artist, and producer that specializes in Josh A/Lil Revive type beats. And sometime other stuff. I've been listening to Josh A (and Jake hill) since 2018, so I've been through a majority of Josh's generations. I actually don't mind the pop music. He pulls it off pretty well, and it's become a staple of his music nowadays. However, I do feel it's heavily overdone by Josh. And I know that a decent chunk of his community doesn't like it. I actually somewhat enjoyed Fearless II as well. A lot of the songs sounded the exact same as his other projects, yes. And there were a few songs in the album that were pretty bad IMO. (Plus it sounded nothing like the original so calling it "Fearless II" is a total sin) However I don't think it's a bad as most people think. As for The Return, I actually didn't like the first half of the album the first time I listened to it. Idk why, but after a few times through it did grow on me. And that's from someone who enjoyed the You're Not Alone album a lot. But I do enjoy the album as a whole. However all of this is pretty irrelevant with how I feel about the album now. So here it is. (by song) 1. The Return: Vocals/lyrics - Its pretty good. Especially as the first track of the album. However, some parts of it lost me. Especially at first. Beat - is okay. The orchestral elements are done very well. And the drums are decent. Overall: 8/10 2. Hell & Back: Vocals/Lyrics - Pretty good as well. Nothing much to say Beat - I really enjoy it. again, not many things to say. Overall: 8/10 3. Grief Vocals/Lyrics - Same as Hell & Back for me. Pretty good. Beat - Sounds similar to other tracks Josh has made before, so. Overall: 8.5/10 4. Barely Hanging On Vocals/Lyrics - Powerful, and overall great. Some lines were weird though. Kind of off beat. However, the chorus is awesome. The vibrato in the first line is beautiful. Second verse is kinda meh. Again, off-beat lyrics here and there. Beat - Literally "You're Not Alone 2" Overall: 7/10 5. Demons Vocals/Lyrics - They're okay. Picks up throughout the song. So, yeah.. Beat - Pretty good. But same old kick.808 pattern as a lot of his other songs. However this is a staple of his. And works for this song Overall: 7.5/10 6. Villain (Personal Favorite) Vocals/Lyrics - Amazing. Old-School josh vibes. And he Disses Yeat, Ice Spice, the music industry as a whole, And starbucks. Beat - It's a banger, that's it Overall: 9/10 7. Take My Soul back Vocals/Lyrics. Pretty bland. Hook kinda meh. Verses are decent. Bridge is amazing Beat: Guitar is great, beat is great Overall: 7.5/10 8. Alone with my thoughts Same as before, rating and all. 7.5/10 9. Lost You Vocals/Lyrics - Intro is amazing, song is pretty good Beat - Typical Josh beat Overall: 8/10 10. Devil in disguise Vocals/Lyrics - They're typical Josh stuff. But good. Better than most his pop stuff Beat - Guitar is amazing. Beat is good. The 808 slide is dope. but a bit too high, so it sounds weird. (basically it has too much high-end in the 808 for it) Overall 8/10 11. Beautiful scars Vocals/Lyrics - They're good, and emotional. But also typical for josh Beat - Pretty good. the transition from the previous song is cool. but not the cleanest. Overall 7.5/10 The album as a whole is okay in my opinion. Not the best, and not worth the 2 year wait. Overall album score - 7/10

I liked the album, just not the last 2 songs and Take my soul back. I just dont like these pop guitare beats, they all sound the same. also Lost you, that song scared the hell out of me when i played the album, like the start of this song way to loud

I frickin' love the album because I love Josh's lighter pop stuff. I still think Lonely Vibes is my favorite though
