I mean last I checked, Mia was only partially cured. With Eveline dead, Mia was freed of the thing in her that caused her to go all angry zombie mode, but the virus in her was never cured. It's still there, probably because it doesn't pose a threat to her or anyone else anymore. She still remembers everything, and judging by the fact that she barely cared about a bullet to the shoulder and multiple bullets to the head, she's clearly still infected and still more than capable of surviving small arms fire.

with the context from the rest of the game, the opening scene is amazing. miranda saying "go cautiously take YOUR daughter to bed" also taking a bullet and having an annoyed reaction instead of pain, the story being about mirandas child and her calling the child a rascal which isnt something a writer would say in that way, going "full native" with the food and acting so nonchalant around everything that happened in Louisiana. its just perfect story telling and seeding in doubts early but not blatant that you guess the twist right away.

I feel like the fairytale at the start of the game is such a clever way to foreshadow. Each of the characters in this fairytale clearly represent the monsters Ethan encounters throughout the game. The bat lord being Donna, the fish king being Moreau, the dark weaver being Lady Dimitrescu and the horse being Heisenberg. The witch that appears when all of the monsters combined represents Miranda. I just find that so cool and I feel it’s a very clever but subtle way to introduce the story.

Ok so I don’t know if anyone else has already pointed this out but at the beginning, when Mia is ready the story to Rose, each of the creatures represents the lords, the bat the mommy Dimitrescu, the weaver is Donna, the fish king is Moreau and the horse is Heisenberg. The Witch is Maranda. I can’t believe I only realised that now but it’s a pretty cool detail.
