You quite often mention how this is great as an introductory wargame, (as opposed to being a wargame for experienced wargamers). While very true, it must also be mentioned that this is also great for experienced wargamers who're looking to play a solid, complete strategic level game in less than three hours!

I think this game works as a best simulation of WW1 than POG. The combat system also give a good representation of the heavy attritional battles in the war.

I didn't really like POG. I didn't like the "end of a turn" action where TE could surround the CP and wipe them out, but not the opposite. I liked Pursuit of Glory (PUG) better. It was the Middle East. It suited me better. I haven't played this game, but am looking forward to it.

Marco, you make a quick comment here denying that 'Axis and Allies' is a legit wargame, Marco. I assure you that it is. Or they are, I should say. All of them require fairly sophisticated resource-mngmt. I run a strategy gaming club teaching youths history, and also courses teaching junior defense analysts the basics of military decision-making, and A&A series games turn out to be ideal for these important purposes. A&A global is better for strategic planning than, for instance, 'Totaler Krieg', which gives you 'reinforcements' based on cards. By contrast, in A&A strategic games one plans and builds one's own forces -- and even has to design the force mix. Very useful training for force-structure design and DoD procurement planning. Few high-end strategy board games demand actual force design. Moreover, most A&A operational games require logistics. The entire series is simple, elegant, and sophisticated.

Extremely light weight and trivial its very easy to produce completely non historical results. Its a game based on WW1 rather than a WW1 war game. Avoid if you are any sort of serious board war gamer. Also the map is an awful piece of tat.

I like the sandbox aspect and complexity is over rated! Sometimes I want to throw dice with friends that don’t want a list of 27 modifiers!
