This wonderful century old 7/8 violin came to Canada from England. It was set up by, (or possibly made by ?) A. C. Lancaster. It has no label or makers marks but was set up with an authentic Lancaster carved bridge. It had England gut strings and an English case. Arthur Lancaster was a luthier and repairer from Colne England, north of Manchester. The length of body is 343cm and the neck reach is 12.8 cm. The interior was fully lined and blocked, and although the original bassbar was excellently carved, it was integral to the plate and short. Restoration included gluing the open seams and adding cleats to the top plate center seam, replacing the original short bassbar with a glued modern length one, new ebony pegs, soundpost and bridge. The fingerboard was dressed and the entire violin was thoroughly cleaned and polished. The strings are Tonica.
Emily Misura performs "Prayer" and demonstrates the fine sound and resonance across all strings. Emily is a professional musician based in Toronto Canada. You can find more of her music on KZbin and by googling Stringing Him Along.
