An OBD2 scanner is the first upgrade I do on my Landcruiser. Quite often they throw a code that can throw you into limp mode especially when your on roads with loose traction, or a code because a condition is met or not met for an instant. The scanner allows you to diagnose and clear the code, most often the code does not come back and your on your way again. Well worth the couple of hundred for a good one.

Get yourself an OBD2 reader. I run a wireless one paired with an app called 'Torque'. It won't fix everything but it'll get you back on the road quicker. Everyone doing remote travel with a vehicle built within the last 25 years should own one.

I just had a similar drama with my 2019 LC200. 70ks on the clock. Went into limp mode with similar dash lights lit up. Toyota replaced all 8 injectors under warranty. About an $8k job. Apparently it is a known issue with this model. John Madill Toyota Gympie said they have replaced injectors on several dozen of this model.

Shame it’s an inconvenience when out bush somewhere but great that they just replace them, no questions hey.

@@WildReaches Absolutely. They won’t do diddly if you have any mods to the vehicle. My Dealer allowed me to remove my oil catch can before taking the photos to send to Toyota. Thanks for your hard work mate and the time you need to spend away from your own family to be able to share this with all of us. Hi mate, I recently went through the same issue. On the way to the cape my scan tool said I had injector circuit number 7 open and limp mode.cleared codes into mackay and had the injector replaced at smart diesel…great blokes … research suggested that once one goes the rest slowly follow suit. Went to the tip, did all the tracks, just finished the old coach road and I had number 4 circuit open and limp mode, clearing codes I eventually had number 2 showing up, made it to the Sunshine Coast and the first injector we pulled out had to go into chamber number 4 as I couldn’t clear it (clearing codes while driving) The issue is a dodgy solarnoid in a batch of the manufacturers injectors, I spoke with a few guys on the 70 series forums and multiple people with a 2019-2020 had the same issue between 30-50000 kms.200 series have the same engine and injectors and apparently are suffering the same problem. I also had Toyota replace all 8 under warranty and 2 months after I got home my mate went through the same dilemma. Glad Toyota were accomodating and you can keep delivering the content. What year and how many kms is your 79 out of curiosity?

Mate in my 100 series the ECU light {engine light} would come on, could be anywhere highway doing 110 k's where ever, would pull over to the side of the road wait ten to twenty minutes start the truck up, on my way for 100 kilometres or less. Turns out it was the ecu board (I'M not a mechanic) cost heaps to find it the problem was, everyone wanted $$$$ just to have a look, in the end a clever backyard mechanic found the problem caused by a leaky windscreen. Once fixed it was like having a new car. BUT you probably know all that by now!

Absolute rippa episode Nath. One off the cuff. Great to see you're keeping up your fishing averages too. 😁😁😁 That barra recipe looks great. Probably work good with the snapper down here. How do you think it would be wrapped in the baking paper, as you do, but cooked in a camp oven? Also, how thinly did you slice the potatoe/sweet potatoe? I love cooking on a camp fire. I'm a bit dumbfounded about the Toyota dealer in charters towers not looking at your car. At least just to clear the codes for you. Not all dealers are created equal I suppose. After seeing this, I'm getting a brand specific reader for my old rangah. Glad it was all sorted, and under warranty, in the end. Cheers mate, keep up the great work. Work? Hmmmm? Mate it takes 2 minutes to put a scan tool on a modern day 4X4 and Toyota these days repeatidly show how much dogs they are by not doing so. This just highlights the importance of purchasing your own scan tool and carrying it when travelling especially touring long distance. In my opinion if you can afford $1500 for a snorkel then you should put some money aside for a scan tool for exactly this reason (not having a dig). My snapon cost me $1900 and has already paid itself off in 11 months hands down on my vehicle and several other of friends and colleagues, and I'm not even touring as hard as you are. If you can clear the fault codes enough to get to the next major town to be told by the loosers at Toyota (which I drive) that they won't help you at least you know you may still be able to drive the vehicle (depending on your codes) home or like you did utilise your RACV and get towed home. The majors (Toyota) do not care about consumers anymore unless they can profit from us, point blank! BTW great content and please keep it up. Not having a dig, I just want to see you out on the tracks for longer without experiencing these electrical gremilins which are going to become all more so prevelant with modern day vehicles.
