During November 2021 the south of BC experienced a series of powerful storms called atmospheric rivers. They brought torrential rains lasting for days. Mountain and hillside streams grew to raging rivers, massive land slides brought huge rocks and tress down which destroyed roads and cut off communities. Flooding spread across huge swaths of the Fraser Valley and many people lost their homes. There were fatalities reported in slides and floods in other parts of the province too. This video shows one such land slide site on Lougheed Highway (#7) between Hope and Agassiz. It's a remote stretch of road, but when the slides came down here, it trapped hundreds of residents and motorists between them. Search and Rescue helicopters were used to airlift out many of the people who were trapped. No one was badly injured in this slide fortunately.
