The Lankavatara Sutra trans. Red Pine, Ch. 3, Pt. 5 (Sec. 62)

This unabridged recitation of a portion of The Lankavatara Sutra is from the translation by Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki, first published in 1932 by Routledge & Kegan Paul Limited, London. Suzuki’s excellent introduction to this text helps the reader understand some of the key concepts. Serious students may want to obtain Suzuki’s companion volume, Studies in the Lankavatara Sutra. Beyond the stimulation provided by any intellectual understanding and appreciation of sublime concepts communicated through this important Mahayana scripture, it is critical to not lose sight of the overriding purpose. The intent of the Buddha is to assist the practitioner in seeing beyond words and concepts, with an intuitive awareness of a deeper truth, and to actualize that truth in the world through compassionate concern for one’s fellow beings. This is the bodhisattva path. Namu Amida Butsu
