I mean, I get it if you want to use it on a bench in the park or something like that or on the train and you don't have an outlet at hand.. but other than that?.. you COULD just carry around a power bank or two? I'd much rather have a lighter thinner laptop and have the OPTION of bringing extra power bank(s) if I know I'm going to need the extended off-grid uptime.. plus the added bonus of that is you don't have to have it attached all the time, only when you need to charge it up. My phone has decent battery life, and normally it'll last up to 4 days (Oneplus 6T) simply because I primarily use it as a glorified alarm clock and leave the data&wifi disabled. But when I was into Pokemon Go with my friends I just bought 2 power banks and those did the job perfectly fine keeping my phone up and running throughout an entire afternoon catching dem pokemans.

For the general market, to get a “do everything alright” laptop, $1,000 is probably a pretty common budget. It isn’t a budget laptop, but it is powerful enough that a student or office worker can probably do everything they need to do and a bit more, such as gaming in your downtime. I had an Inspiron in the same market segment about 15 years ago, was perfect for a student with a healthy (not not crazy) budget and who likes games but is not worried about playing the latest and greatest. @@nevoyu I've seen $600 laptops that have discrete gpus and touchscreen last year, and this is over $400 more with half the ram. The only thing it has going for it is it has a recent processor, which is fine but not game changing. Edit: Just seen on Amazon it was listed at 830 USD without a discount, which is a lot more respectable of a price for what you get. Also if you look at Dell's website, the midrange model has 16gb of ram but the budget/premium 7000 don't. WTF

This engineer who uses matlab and excel all day long must be really smart. Very few if any can understand the benefits of mixing the ram as he did. Simple minded people like me would remove the laptop ram module, install both modules of the 16gb kit, and put back in the box the laptop module. In both cases you end up with 16b of ram installed and 8gb spare, but there is so much wisdom the way he does it.

Impressions after owning the Inspiron 7951 for 9 months!!! I purchased this laptop (for around £700) in September of 2019 with these specs: - i7-9750H with GTX 1050 - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB storage The laptop has served me well over the past year as my daily driver. I'm a university student studying English literature, so my daily tasks involve having 30+ chrome tabs open, running Microsoft Word, Spotify, Powerpoint etc during the workday. However, I am also a gamer who plays indie titles as well as modern triple-A titles. Here, I'll outline the pros and cons of the laptop: Pros: Lightweight relative to performance; really nice keyboard; bright and colour-accurate display; good selection of ports Cons: THERMALS (I'll explain later)*; useless keyboard backlighting; sticky numberpad keys; confusing BIOS; sharp edges on keyboard deck; only around 5 hours battery life (I carry my power brick everywhere so this wasn't really an issue for me) *This laptop runs HOT, reaching high temperatures even when performing minimal tasks like running chrome tabs and playing video. Even though the magnesium-alloy of the chassis is sturdy, it also turns out to be very heat-conductive. The worst spots are the front of the keyboard deck just underneath the screen and the rear panel of the chassis where the fan-grill is located. These two spots get hot enough to the point where they are uncomfortable to touch with your bare skin. I have undervolted my model using ThrottleStop and it still runs almost as hot as it did out of the box. Another important note, THIS IS NOT A GAMING LAPTOP. It may be able to handle lighter tasks such as programming; however, as soon as you engage in gpu/cpu heavy tasks such as gaming and video editing the thermals will bottleneck and framerates/rendering times will worsen. Long story short, these thermal limitations prevent the laptop from making full use of the NVIDIA graphics it contains. Final verdict: This laptop serves as a fantastic thin and light device for activities such as media consumption, office/web browser tasks, and programming. However, the thermal limitations of this laptop are a dealbreaker when it comes to heavier workloads. Personally, I plan on upgrading to either the Eluktronics MAG-15 or the Lenovo Legion Y740. Even though these devices are more expensive, they have much better thermals and more capable GPUs. If you are in the same position as me and are looking for a laptop which is thin and light with the capability to run any game you throw at it, I would HEAVILY recommend giving the MAG-15 a look (as well as the Y740). - Info on MAG-15: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGisaoKrhNKLkLs - Info on Legion Y740: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3q8g4SMbKpkhpI Final final note: This is more of a mistake I made personally rather than an issue with the laptop itself. Like the video states, be EXTREMELY CAREFUL when removing the screws of the back panel; they strip very easily. I'd recommend buying a laptop toolkit from somewhere like ifixit.com before attempting to crack open this bad boy. I managed to strip 3 of the screws on mine and have resigned myself to never accessing the internals in order to avoid the £50-£100 a laptop repair shop would charge me to solve the issue. Feel free to comment if you have any questions this review doesn't answer and I'll do my best to get back to you! Happy shopping!

Biggest surprise for me with these 7000 series Inspiron is the chassis, all aluminium used to be something that was a big selling feature of the XPS line. Just adds a lot to the feel of a laptop. 7501 seemed to fix the biggest issue with the 7000 and included 1650ti.

I hate how 15-inch "value-oriented" laptops such as this one have great specs but are too large for the vast majority and don't have acceptable battery life. If this concept was just condensed into a 13-14 inch form factor with better battery, it would be amazing.

What is with these channels? I get they see the big and best and are used to it. My dad just got an Inspiron 15 5000 at my recommendation. Very similar--Ryzen 5 3500U (4 cores but still really snappy), 8GB RAM, 256 GB NVMe. He's literally going to use it to browse the web and pay bills. It's light enough to take around the house, and he's not going to put enough stuff on it to warrant larger storage (this was our only option, otherwise we would have gotten a 512 GB drive regardless). It's really nice for being like $650 with Office, including 7% sales tax (it was 17% off plus 2% for being a Dell Rewards member). I think it's a great laptop for the lightweight user.
