And if you intend to release the fish, a long fight is the antithesis of a good game plan. A long fight causes oxygen depletion in the muscle tissue and the resulting lactic acid can kill the fish, or make it so weak and slow it can't survive after the release.

Wow!!! What an awesome catch! To have it all on film like that is so beautiful....well handled and so awesome to see such incredible fish like that released...I wish our rivers in Nova Scotia, Canada had more genetics like that swimming upstream to spawn! Well done!!!!

what!!! didn't you see the fly drop down at the tip of the fly line !!! that not skill thats luck , I'm not saying that manfred isn't a good salmon fisherman . but the guy has gotten knowledge from his excellent guides for decades so he knows just about every holding place in every pool so that increases his chances for fish twofold to a any regular fisherman

Nice guy, great strech of Gaula. Just make sure, when you book, that you are not in the same period as his goodold Japanese friend. Raguse takes him to all the hotspots first and you may find your luck with that's what's left.

Well done that man. BUT what has happened to the time honoured tradition of using a Gye Net? I feel that this angler can count himself lucky, that this monster stayed attached after all the Faffing around to land it!!!

What a well-deserved fish. No publicity-seeking, no fuss. Just a quick moment to admire the fish and a careful return to ensure its chance to spawn. You are an angler we would all do well to copy. It's forty years since I netted a 38pound fish from the river Teifi in Wales. That went straight into someone's freezer. Maybe they would still be there if they had been treated with the same respect as this guy shows. Hat's off to you sir

Hi Well I have to say the sad thing about this is the unnecessary, protracted play out of the fish, the ridiculous missed grabs at the fish, exhausted by its efforts to get free, it will be in an poor state. This fish carries the genetics so important for the survivability of the Atlantic Salmon, painful to watch at the end and rather ridiculous.

where i fish in norway, these salmon go up rapids so large, climbing 2-300 meter up above sea level to spawn. fighting a fish for 10 minutes is just going to make it take a break and go on its journey when it is rested.

You don't know the efforts of fishermans to preserve fish population especially Salmons. Yes it might not be the best migration for this one but in a lot of river if fishermans haven't protected them there will be no more fish. One day maybe people will do more for rivers than fishermans and we will discuss about that but now we are mostly alone to preserve theses ecosystems.
