In summers past, we used to stop in Michigan on our way to Wisconsin to see my mother's parents. She loved the lakes and the beautiful flowers when we visited Mackinac Island on one of our trips. She never got to go to the Lilac Festival, but they were her favorite flower and she would have loved this video.

As someone who has decades of horse and carriage/cart experience i can tell you those new type carriages with the capacity for11 to 17 passengers and the wide tires is to heavy for a two horses team to pull ...the humane society should take a look at what's going on on that island.... beautiful garden's and home's though!!.❤️🇺🇲

Beautiful video! Watching with my wife on a rainy day, wishing we were back on Mackinac. What time of day did you shoot this? It didn’t appear that the crowds of tourists were in the island yet, so I would guess early morning.

Oh a peaceful video on a rainy day sounds great! So glad you tuned in and enjoyed the video! Filming was at various times of the day depending on what areas had good light, but we try to be patient and wait for a quiet moment when not many people are in the spot that we're filming. Filming in the morning and evening is best for light and less people. Most visitors to the Island only stay for the day and leave by 5-6pm. Thanks for watching!

We have nursery tree farms in Alberta. Wish they would buy from you those beautiful lilacs and northern plants. We need to boost for our bees, our bees need juicy flowers. We are in Red Deer, Alberra, but Calgary, Edmonton and our cities are in need. I am sure they would buy from you.

Most of the plants are bought from nurseries throughout the state. I know one shop actually sells lilac plants from the Island, but I'm not aware of others. They thrive here on the Island specifically because of the cool weather and limestone rock. They are quite spectacular!

So how do these lilacs get so big? Soil? Feed? Acid/Alkaline ? Sun? Water?

A little of all of the above. The island is a big limestone rock so the pH is naturally very high. Also, the island is relatively cool compared to its mainland counterparts. Getting to around 85 but mostly hovering in the mid 70's during the summer season. Finally, there always seems to be a breeze coming off the water. Lilacs respond positively to the wind running through their branches. There's only 1 true "tree" species on the island, the rest are shrubs that have grown over 18 feet tall! Oh they are there and abundant! The camera doesn't always get them but if you look closely or at some of our other videos, bees and butterflies thrive on the Island with all of our native plants and planted flowers.
