I sang this beautiful song, when I was at school, over 50 years ago. It can still bring tears to my eyes.

I lived in Belfast for four years in the 1960s, but never thought of the origins of the name. Nor did I know of the culverted river beneath my feet. Folk songs of my youth were daring "Rebel Songs" such as Roddy McCorley, and Kevin Barry. More ancient tunes such as this were entirely unknown to me, apart from The Minstrel Boy, and An Irish Tune From County Derry. The Clancy Brothers then expanded my horizons, with the air The Lass of the Moorlough Shore, an ancient tune for the poem The Foggy Dew. Your own commentry has now enriched my heritage. Many thanks for making this documentary.

What a fabulous documentary about this exquisite song! I am teaching "The Lark in the clear Air" on Wednesday 28th April 2021 to an international choir on Zoom and will refer them to your film to understand the whole history of the song.

Hi Marion. So glad you enjoyed the story. I'm sure you'll agree that the melody and lyrics of The Lark in the Clear Air are magical. That Zoom meeting sounds great!

Absolutely beautiful. I first fell in love with the song 'Lark in the Clear Air' in Feb.2014 when a violin friend first played it for me. I had no idea that it had such a brilliant history behind it. I play piano accordion and to play this wonderful air brings me enormous pleasure. Eugene Dunphy; thank you for your production of this Irish gem.

What a tune. I have in my mind, a very simple and clear version from the 1970s, possibly unaccompanied, a woman , I think. Any ideas.

Such a beautiful song. Why, in the name of all that's wonderful. pass up the opportunity to have it sung by a tenor|? In my ear, a woman pouring out her love for another woman sounds queer.
