Peggy Mount was outstanding in Sailor Beware. She bellowed from start finish. Lovely scene in the film when she flings the lounge door open and finds her husband drunk. The fierce look on her face was hilarious. She was one of the best battle axes ever. 😂

is the guy in glasses american? doesnt sound british

He could be either Canadian or American. My guess would be he was stationed in England during the war and that's how he met the daughter.

This is supposed to be funny?? Nearly 4 and a half minutes into the start and the first unenthusiastic audience rumble thinly disguised as laughter. And what's with having an american in the show? It just adds to the weirdness. The laughs are so far and few between, I thought I was watching a soap opera.

My feeling is it didn't have the boldness of a brand of British gallows humour considered too dark and cutting rather like blue jokes. It could have had a tinge of Alf Garnett and be led by his spirit and because it dare not, we mock it for its low-voiced timidity

No Americans, just a Canadian, this was UK TV 60 years ago, audiences were must more reserved back then.
