Using 2 photographs taken by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe in the early 1880s this short video illustrates the construction of the Larpool Viaduct on the Whitby and Scarborough railway, now used as a walking and cycle route since its closure in the mid 1960s.

Walked across it a couple of years ago from the site of the old station to the station at Hawsker,a lovely walk & then a pint & fish & chips back at Whitby,the whole line went to Scarborough,through the Scarborough goods yard (where Sainsbury's is now) & continued through to Scarborough station via the now closed Falsgrave tunnel.As I remember the Larpool viaduct also featured in an episode of Heartbeat

If the original plan had been followed the Whithy and Scarborough Railway would have had a station on the eastern side of the harbour with a steep climb up to where the rest of the line would have been.
