@TheStraightestWhitest
@TheStraightestWhitest 4 жыл бұрын
@Matheus Costa I do agree that Zuko Book 3 could not take down Ozai alone, but your scenario of Azula targeting Katara to take down Zuko wouldn't work on Iroh. Katara had no answer to Azula's lightning, and Zuko knew that. This is what caused him to take the hit instead. But Iroh would not do this, because he's the one who taught Zuko to redirect it. And while Ozai is a slightly more powerful bender than Zuko, Zuko would be good enough to hold his own. The only way Ozai could take out Zuko quickly is by way of lightning, and he doesn't have that trump card. As such, he'd have to divide his attention to just blasting away at him, which would be a terrible idea seeing as Zuko is even stronger defensively than he is offensively (he took a square shot from Combustion Man at point blank range and was fine). Ozai can't top that even with the Comet, and let's not forget that Zuko would be amped just as much by it. Seeing as the Comet multiplies power rather than giving it a flat boost, Zuko + Iroh would be at a serious advantage over Ozai. The more you rely on the natural energy of the sun, the more you gain from the Comet, and Zuko and Iroh both get their power from the sun more than anyone seeing as they learned from the dragons and the Sun Warriors. So basically, Ozai alone isn't as amplified by the Comet as much as Zuko and Iroh are together. I don't think he'd even stand a good chance. He wouldn't have the time to take down one without the other using it to take him down instead, and his only way of doing so (lightning) is turned against him. I think he'd start unleashing on Zuko, who would fend it off just fine, while Iroh blasts Ozai's head off with lightning. Either that, or he'd try to separate the two by use of his superior agility, which would be his best bet.

Zuko who once maddeningly chased the Avatar across the world, now matures into an honourable warrior with stout ideals. Azula who was a mature and prodigious woman, stood on the precipice of insanity in her most crucial moment. One journeyed aimlessly and ended it with a meaningful goal to pursue. One started off determined but ended up losing all meaning to her life at the end. One wanted the affection of his father while another, her mother. Both of them realize that only the affection of one of their parents was all they need. But one of them realized too late. It's sad, really. As Zuko rises, Azula falls.

Chiara Ros I think Azula definitely wanted to kill Zuko. But I think he just wanted to stop her. It is sad. She never loved him; I don’t think she ever loved anyone. I don’t know if Zuko ever loved Azula, but he certainly didn’t want her dead (at least at the end). And contrary to what some say, siblings don’t often want to kill each other. It is rarely the case.

@@KevvoLightswift I think zuko accepted the Agni Kai with the intent and understanding of taking her out if he had to, even if that meant killing her or almost killing her. I think that was the purpose of that entire scene/battle...to signify the end of his journey to become the leader the fire nation needed. Leaders sometimes have to make terrible choices. I think that's also why the fight shifted towards katara defeating azula, because it gave them a reason incapacitate her without killing her. If zuko has shown mercy it might have taken away from the "seriousness" of the scene. At least that's why I think.

The creators could have played epic anime music in the background in this battle to get people excited. But they didn't. They played sad music because it is truly one of the saddest moments in this show. I didn't realize it when I was younger but now that im older the last agni kai always brings a tear to my eye. That last scene where Azula is crying while chained by Katara always gets stuck in my head for months after I watch(and rewatch) the show. Truly a masterpiece.

Zuko wasn’t fighting his sister. He was fighting her shell... Azula was not a person in this duel, she was a deranged monster. Every Agni Kai in this show has ended with dishonor which is ironic because an Agni Kai is supposed to be honorable. Ozai was dishonorable because he mauled his 13 year old son. Zhao because he attacked Zuko after he lost, and Azula because she attacked Katara, a spectator. And in all of these it was Zuko who kept his honor

It makes perfect sense considering that zukos sense of "honor" came from what he read and learned about the fire nation from the outside. In his mind, the fire nation WAS honourable. It was glorious and proud, the one true strength. Zuko truly loved the fire nation, and what it was supposed to be, while everyon else focused on personal gain. No doubt, he wanted his father's approval too. But when he was shunned, it really seemed like he accepted what the fire nation called themselves, and when he was finally accepted again, he saw that the fire nation was not what he believed. Zuko really was one of the very few truly honourable people in the fire nation.

My favorite part about the Last Agni-Kai is 100% the sound choices and design. During the fight between Zuko and Azula, there is no other sounds except the very powerful and unique sounding fire attacks (that emphasize just how powerful they are and how special they are to this fight - it takes the power they have been showing the entire series and it makes it special for this occasion alone by changing the sound of the fire) and the string music that accompanies the soundless firefight (which draws away from a tense and exciting soundtrack that might normally be displayed on a climactic fight and trades it for a somber soundtrack that highlights the tragedy of Azula, Zuko, and their complicated and ultimately broken relationship). In my experience, it was literally breathtaking.
@seanpierce4566

And there is seriously so much that goes into this fight: littel details that I have to give props for. For those that didn't know or catch it: Zuko uses forms from the other bending disciplines during his fight. He starts the fight off with a waterbending move and uses an earthbending form to break up her attack. His punch to the ground that launched his first real attack was earth form and when Azula is circling him, he adopts a wide legged stance for stability, and his spinning for the AoE is technically a trademark of wind style (although I've seen it several times during the series and many have explained it as a homebrew move he developed while young cause he always got knocked down). There are actually many moments where he's blending styles: his legs would be far apart for stability, but his arms would be flowing as an airbender or waterbender. It's seriously amazing how Zuko's fighting style was choreographed and animated in the Last Agni Kai

The tragedy behind this isn't just Azula's fall from grace. The music really added to the atmosphere. The scene was one of the best fight scenes in the entire show with stunning visuals. I don't think so, in some East-Asian culture, Red meaning good and Blue is bad. An example is the Kabuki, a Japanese dance-drama, the main heroine always wear a mask with red mark while the antagonist wear the mask with blue mark, to portrait their role and their personality. Another example is from China, the blue flame is the symbol of evil spirit, and many other Asian culture choose red as the color of justice, or atleast choose blue as something sinister, like Vietnam. ATLA was inspired by Asian culture. So yeah, Zuko was meant to be a legit good guy while Azula is imbued with evil. (sorry for my bad english)

Iro always told Zuko from the very first episodes he has to find and keep a strong base. throughout the series he does that and in the last agni ki he keeps a stable form and barely moves throughout the duel and is the one who throws Azula off balance and ultimately prevails. one of the most iconic redemption arcs in my opinion, because of how well it was executed.

I love this theme. Why wouldn't they put like an actual "fast" theme which you would normally use ? Because this theme gets how firebending isn't about POWER. It's about amotions, ambitions, love and soul. That is why this theme is so calming and overwhelming you with every feeling. Literally.

It's not happy or triumphant, right? It's...actually kind of a shame that it came to that for Azula and Zuko. It's hard and scary and yeah kind of glorious, but also a tragedy in it's own right. That''s a lot of nuance and subtlety from a song and fight scene.
@seanpierce4566

@@rampant1apart I agree with you, m8 - the theme that uses a slow but impactful rhythmic drum that breaks up a haunting string melody really made the fight kind of sad for me. It made me pity Azula and how broken she became and it made me understand that Zuko didn't enjoy this fight as much as his old self might have: he's focused and understands who he's fighting. Really, the soundtrack made this fight a representation of the tragedy of Azula, Zuko, and their broken relationship to each other and the fire nation.

The last agni kai is one of many moments where The Last Airbender really sets itself apart from other shows. A lesser show would've made this a 'good guy vs bad guy' scene, with the music to match. The Last Airbender doesn't. It knows that this fight is inherently an incredibly sad one. Zuko and Azula, siblings, children, both victims of their fathers abuse in different ways, fighting to the death in what should be their home. The sad music reflects this so well. Then when Azula is defeated, you don't feel happy for it. That shell of cold-calculated-killer that Azula has put up all her life crumbles, and we see her for the first time for what she is: a girl, broken by her childhood...

The best part of this scene isn't even the confrontation. They are not fighting each other like another naruto filler would make them. Azula is fighting for her pride as a firebender, going ape-shit with crazy attacks, while Zuko is merely disabling her attacks, and throwing a few simple direct attacks, only fighting what is necessary, because doing more would be against his newfound philosophy. And the music makes it clear : this is not an epic fight, this is a sad confontation between the daughter of Ozai's philosophy, a madwoman unable to listen to anything but brute force, and the (spiritual) son of Iroh and both of their journey learning more about themselves than about the world. This is Iroh being proven right, about pride being the worst pillar to rely on. The best part of this fight is that this fight is a conflict Ozai forced Azula into while Zuko decided by himself to thread on his uncle's path. Meanwhile in Star Wars : Daffy Duck is making a tantrum.

I don't think people realize how much damage Ozai did not just to Zuko but to Azula. Both children ended up scarred and traumatized their entire upbringing, leading them to very different paths. Whereas Zuko was able to find the support system he needed, Azula did not. She was surrounded by people who were too scared to confront her until it was too late, didn't have that parental figure that could keep her humble and on a straight path. Instead, she was given everything and enabled and fed that narcisstic personality until it all fell apart and the true Azula was revealed. A battered child who was molded to be her Father's perfect child.

I love how the roles were reversed in the last Agni Kai. Zuko is self confident, calm and calculated - Azula is in rage, aggressive and passionate. Zuko Is definitely the best written character in Avatar. He's father scarred him and banished him, his sister manipulated his emotions with lies and thrusts masked with more lies, Zhao called him a disgrace and a failure. But in spite of all he suffered he endured, thanks to Uncle Iroh he restored his own honor, trained the Avatar, defeated his sister and eventually became Fire Lord. All while those who looked down on him fell from grace. His father losing his bending, Azula losing his mind and Zhao lost in the spirit world for all eternity. And let's not forget he founded The United Republic with Aang. Best character indeed.

Music speaks volumes sometimes. Unlike in most Avatar's battles, the last Agni Kai is such an emotional and sad soundtrack. It builds up tension between Zuko and Azula, two siblings who grew up hating each other, and inevitably ended up facing off in battle. However the music sets a different tone. It's not an epic battle. It's a sad event. Tragic even. In the end, we wave two siblings, who were supposed to love each other, battling to the death. And no matter what has happened between them, that is just sad...

Most other movies or series would take a fight scene like this one as an opportunity to throw in an epic, heroic battle with thrilling music, but the creators wisely chose to make it a moment of deep sorrow as Zuko is forced to fight his own little sister (or what is left of her). Even if Azula was a psychopath, and master manipulator, you could tell she did care for Zuko at some point. I feel like Azula was crying at the end of their fight because she realized what kind of person she’s become. She shut out her friends, her followers, and even her own family. Fitting that this theme's always almost sounded somewhat like a funeral dirge. When I first watched this series I always expected Zuko and Azula's final battle to feel triumphant at the end, but really, it felt more sad than anything else. Don't get me wrong, it was a great fight, but when you look at it in the context of a "real event" as opposed to a "story event" it's two siblings who - for better or for worse - are largely the products of an abusive upbringing, even though they both may have suffered different forms of it. In Zuko's case, he rose above his trauma, in Azula's case, she allowed it to consume her, and at the end, we're left with what I feel is an overlooked tragedy - a brother and his younger sister, both of whom are STILL children mind you, fighting to the death. And all because their father wanted more.
@necrosunderground
@necrosunderground 2 жыл бұрын
THANK YOU! I came here to say that. Those drums, that slow beat, those are funeral drums. The last Agni Kai would likely have been to the death, had Azula not attacked Katara. And it hurts more, knowing that Azula was both so warped by Ozai's philosophies, and broken by feeling betrayed by Mai, Ty Lee, and her own mother, that she wanted Zuko dead. She saw that her mother favored Zuko; Mai told her to her face that she loved Zuko more than she feared her. And she wanted to punish him for that. While Zuko, who has matured probably more than anyone else in the series, who has had to struggle and fight for everything that ever came naturally to his sister, has finally found himself as a person, and found the honor in himself that he always sought from others, takes absolutely no joy in this fight. He's resigned to it, he knows it's inevitable, but he finds no pleasure in it. This is just a whole nother level of storytelling

I always found Azula to be my favorite character. She was abused, used and manipulated by her father, just as Zuko was. While Zuko's mother shielded him a bit from their father, she offered no such shield for Azula (that we see), Zuko was exiled and allowed to be free of the abusive parent while Azula was made the main focus of it. Zuko was allowed to grow to become his own person and make his own choices, Azula was buried by the abuse, manipulation and narcissism of their father. She is incredibly tragic and just as much, if not more, of a victim of their father's abuse as Zuko. He had Iroh in the end to help nudge him along in the right direction and offer guidance and love, Ozai stripped any guidance and emotion from Azula and left her with nothing. In the end, mental illness claimed her.

This isn’t a fight between a redeemed hero and a deranged villain, or a fight between two sworn enemies Is a fight between two abused children who were supposed to be the best of friends...

Everyone talks about how Zuko has the greatest evolution/redemption arc, but not enough people give credit to the story of Azula and her de-evolution and fall from grace and sanity. Her going from the pinnacle of poised villainy and manipulation to a woman betrayed at every turn and consumed with paranoia to the point of insanity was amazing.

This song is absolutely heart wrenching. It revokes so many memories and you can literally feel the melancholy and tension. It’s perfect. You’d think the final battle between siblings for the title as fire lord would be more upbeat and ecstatic, but this perfectly displays how they are both feeling, almost as if they don’t really want to fight each other. They were both children who yearned for their parent’s affection. Both were brought up in a broken family. Gosh Avatar is such a masterpiece. Great work btw!

I find it really fitting that the music for Zuko and Azlua's final climactic battle is more sad and slow than epic and fast paced. Its fitting to their relationship and struggle, because it really is more sad than an epic battle. Azlua is going mad and crazy, they're both the product of an abusive father, their relationship has always been strained, Zuko wishes he had a normal relationship with his sister and family. This music is far more fitting for the situation than an epic battle theme would have been

"Power in firebending comes from the breath, NOT the muscles!" This music breathes. Seriously, I've breathed in time to it and it's so invigorating and powerful. I really feel like I could shoot fire out of my fingertips.

I'm glad you were able to make this version so epic, yet it stays true to the original fight. Some remixes I've heard tried to make this too overpowering and epic but it strayed away from how somber and depressing the actual fight is. Great work!!
